Excellent quality mattress. It is firm with just a little bit of outer softness (which I like). Material and workmanship is quality too. The shipping cost was expensive but it shipped in less than a week (to Vancouver Island, Canada) and was well packaged (rolled up and vacuum sealed- it took a few days to puff up completely.).

THe mattress is fine Its not the same as a bed mattress, but very good for overnight guests. Our problem was with the frame. We were setting it up the night before we planned to use it for guests, found that we were four screws short, and it was too late to go to a hardware store. The guy at our local hardware store told me that people come in frequently with the same sort of problems, due to various furniture companies shipping unassembled pieces that arent complete. We like the futon now, but it was unexpected trouble putting it together. Plan ahead for problems!

Second one I have purchased. My boys use them every day and think they are comfortable. We will see how long they hold up. One is on the floor the other on a platform. It is worth the money and less expensive than a mattress set. Be careful when cutting off the wrapping around the futon so you don,t cut the fabric.

This was great quality for the money. I would recommend this to anyone that needs a futon mattress. My son sleeps on it every day, and his back aches have gone away!

I use a platform bed with a futon and this fits well. It is better than sleeping on the floor. I will be getting a feather bed and mattress top to put on it since it is rather thinner than I thought. But it works and I like it.

I think the reviews on this mattress have come from people who have never sat on a true high-quality futon. It's not firm whatsoever. It feels like sitting on soft foam.My story:I bought a futon on [@] really for the frame. It's a beautiful cherry wood frame and I got an incredible deal on it. However, the mattress was old and so flat it was uncomfortable to even sit on. I decided to go to the local futon specialty store and looked at their mattresses. It was amazing how good the mattresses their felt. That had pre-compressed foam mattresses and spring mattresses. And in both cases, their mattresses made it felt like sitting on a high-quality couch. That's what I wanted since my futon was going to be an everyday sofa and part-time mattress. But then came the price. [$] for the mattress so I decided pass. That's when I decided to go online and ended up here.Wow, a well-known brand (Serta) mattress for a couple hundred dollars less! And the reviews were great so I ordered it. But as soon as FedEx pulled the relatively small box (yes, a box) out of the truck I knew I was in trouble. The mattress comes shrink-wrapped like a tube. The mattresses at the futon shop are stored and shipped like mattresses because their way too firm and too thick to roll up like a burrito. So I cut the plastic sheath and hoped for the best. But it was clear that this mattress is nothing more than a typical foam mattress. Of course this mattress is half the price of the futon specialty store mattress, but now I know why. If you can afford it, I suggest that you visit a true futon store and sit on one of their mattresses and you will not believe the difference. Rather than bother with trying to ship this thing back, I'm going to put it up for sale on Craigslist, eat the $50-$75, and go spend the extra money to get a mattress that me and my guests will feel comfortable sitting on. It's mattresses like these that give futons a bad name.
