Hello Kelley, there is a backing provided with this Prepac White Monterey Cubbie Bench although part of the composite, the actual backside of the bench which would be flush against the wall, is unpainted.

Got this bench to have a place for plants in my kitchen as well as some extra storage and it is perfect! The only issue I had was that the scallop on the bottom was rough...unfinished and I had to sand it myself, otherwise it is perfect for my use.

Manufacter defects all over. Be careful!

I bought it as it does have an attractive design but after my husband assembled the white monterray cubby bench, we got very displeased with the product. It seems that the manufacturer overdid as in over drilled the dowel holes on the product, so there are splits at the top of the bench where the walls of the inner cubby holes meet the top of the bench. The top was too thin because the holes drilled by the manufacturer were too deep! Also, the veneer strip on far left side of the bench is not stable, it's shaky. Whereas the right veneer strip holds on firmly all because of the dowel holes. My husband is not an amateur at assembling furniture, he has done it umpteenth times, so he knows precisely what he is doing. The product is not satisfactory at all and is a huge disappointment. I don't even know if the top can be replaced! I've done business with Wayfair before and it went perfectly well. I don't understand why this product is so defected!

This cubbie bench was so much nicer than i expected. it looks great in my daughter's bedroom and really adds a nice decorative touch to her room. it is very functional, a great bench height, and the cubbies are large enough to put almost anything in.

I was very pleased with this item. It took about 45 minutes to assemble and all the pieces fit perfectly. The bench was exactly as described. I don't think it specified that baskets DO NOT come with it - they don't! But any standard basket from Target or Wal=mart fits perfectly. I researched many sites - this is the best price.

top left corner was smashed when it arrived & the holes were not drilled to the correct size so we had to increase the size of the holes to make some of the screws fit and forego some of the other screws which we simply couldn't get in - result is a somewhat jerryrigged cubbie bench
