Love this can opener. It is easy to use and does the job well.
Easiest smooth-edge can opener out there!

I've tried three brands with four different cutting layouts, and this one is BY FAR the easiest to use! It lies horizontally atop the can, handles pointing out from the center, 90-degrees off from any other opener I've ever seen. They placed their logo directly above the cutting blade, and even cut a curved guide line into the top surface of the opener that matches the edge of the can so it's really easy to see whether you have everything lined up ok before you close the handles and start turning the cutting blade. Once you get past the omg it's so different from what I'm used to! angle of the thing, it's by far the easiest to operate!

This can opener does provide the smooth opening which is nice, but it's challenging to get it lined up just right to get it to work on the first try. Maybe I'm just not used to this style.

The OXO Good Grips line has been recognized by several national and international organizations for superior design and today is regarded as one of the icons of Universal Design.
The goal of making products more usable forces OXO's product designers to first identify problems and inefficiencies of existing products (including their own), not only in terms of comfort, but performance as well. This gives them the foundation to meet their commitment of making only products that offer tangible improvements. Each year, OXO introduces more than 50 products. Many of these products take more than two years to develop. In fact, a few of the products never make it to the market because they fail to meet the OXO criteria.
The line has grown to more than 500 innovative products covering many areas of the home. Since founder Sam Farber sold the company and retired from OXO in 1995, the company was purchased in 1999 by World Kitchen, Inc., a housewares company based in Reston, Virginia, and then again in 2004 by Helen of Troy Limited. Today, OXO continues to be focused on creating innovative solutions for problems that users experience in their everyday tasks.
