Special Nonexistent Furniture
The Bertoia Collection
Italian-born sculptor Harry Bertoia revolutionized the world of furniture design when he introduced a new material: industrial wire. In 1950, Hans and Florence Knoll gave Bertoia an open assignment to design for their young but expanding furniture company. Bertoia applied many of the same techniques he used in sculpting in his experimentation with bending metal rods. His experimentation with practical art produced this iconic and revered collection of seating, which includes the Bertoia Side Chair, Bertoia Barstool, Bertoia Diamond Chair, Bertoia Bird Chair, Bertoia Asymmetric Chaise, Bertoia Ottoman and Bertoia Bench.
