Our previous experience with an automatic cat feeder was not good. We have a cat with CRF and we cannot leave her at the vet's while we're away as she is a picky eater. We went away for a long weekend to visit our son at college. When we came home, we found the automatic feeder had not advanced although the timer was advancing. Our cat was thin before the trip and was gaunt by the time we got home. For the next trip, I ordered the Six Day Automatic Pet Dish by Koolatron and it worked as it advertised. I did put the cover and bottom of the feeder in the dish washer and the cover came out a little warped. Hopefully it will work for the next trip. Just a note on the packaging stating it is not dish washer safe would be helpful. I did check the packaging before washing the feeder. Really a great design! I bought a Gourmet automatic pet feeder (PetMate) and it broke after just more than a year because of poor design. I tried to get replacement parts (5 cents plastic thing, but they would not help... their answer is buy another one the warranty is over!). This design is very modular and I checked and you can get replacement parts for everything. Furthermore the ErgoPet automatic feeder is robust and will not break as easily (the dispenser is a never-ending thick plastic screw instead of some cheap thin plastic wings for the PetMate one). The timer that is provided with it is very very versatile (up to 8 program per day). I'm delighted with the product! I'm using it to feed my cat so he wont wake me up at 5 AM to get food... Also, it should help being more systematic in our feeding aproach and reduce its overweight. If you have a big dog, take the larger one, but it's robust enough for dogs too! Great product and not really more expensive than the other solutions I could find on the web...Thanks! P.S. Just a small idea for your design... add a small plastic cover so the timer buttons are not avalable for kids to play with..."..."  Read more

Allow your cat/dog several days to get use to the feeder before you leave {if you're leaving for a day of two} my cat only had a few hours but he's a smart boy and got it anyway, infact he was bummed when I got home and took it away. The way it works is it feeds for 6 times once, ex: once at 9am, once at 12 pm, once at 3pm etc... OR 3 x's ex: Mon and Tues @ 9am, Mon and Tue @ 3pm Mon and Tue @ 7pm OR for each day... Mon Tues Wed Thu Fri Sat @ 12pm I hope that wasn't too confusing! The feeder is super quiet, wish it actually made a bit of sound so your pet could hear it and respond but they just need to be hungry and in the kitchen, I should have used the recording it has, that may have helped. I would be really surprised if ANY house pet could break into it for early chow All in all it's a very good product!"..."  Read more
