I finally have my own little space! I have very little space in my house and needed a small desk. Everything I looked at was too wide but this desk fits the space perfectly! The instructions were very clear and took me about an hour and a half to build. I’m able to place my laptop on the top shelf and run my cords down in the back for my keyboard on the lower shelf. This is a beautiful desk. Unfortunately, despite the Q & A answer otherwise, it doesn't accommodate a laptop. With the rolltop open the laptop screen won't open all the way without the keyboard several inches off the lip of the desktop, and an average 10 inch laptop won't fit inside with the laptop closed. I bought it based upon the bad Q & A answer. I have found, thru several purchases, you can't trust these answers. The off-gassing from the finish is also unpleasant, but starting to abate. It’s almost a shame to ever lower the intricate mahogany front panel (which takes over a week to carve), of this mid-19th century antique replica, except that its leather embossed writing desk with pigeonholes and drawers is so useful!
