The Solid Oak Wood BELKA 72in tall by 48.5in wide by 11in deep bookcase in black. The bookcase is advertised as Solid Wood, and Oak. Clearly there are differences between what Solid Wood means. The bookcase is a great size, although the depth is 11 in only at the base, it is 10 in on the side, and the book holding shelves are only 8.6 in deep. In fact the bookshelves do not fill the depth of the space that they could. The bookcase is made of plywood, presumably oak plywood? It has a 1/8th in veneer on top of that. The trim pieces might be real oak wood, there is no way to tell. The veneer is so rough that you cannot wipe it with a dust cloth or dusting wipe, it tears fibers off the clothes or you tear off a splinter of wood. The shelfs are the same, veneer on plywood. After re-reading the Specifications it certainly gives the impression you are getting a real solid oak wood piece of furniture, that is made from parts that were cut from a log of oak. I will make do with the shelves since it is a unique size, and I need to get books out of boxes. The depth is disappointing and many of my books with hang over the edge of a shelf. I will also be suspicious of the words Solid Wood on the Wayfair website. The packaging for transport was phenomenal, it was padded with compression cardboard, panels of thin wood, wrapped in plastic and tied in 2 directions, and placed on a miniature pallet.
