Before & After: A Sunny Spring Bedroom
Plus, the DIY trick that makes the space.
With bright walls, warm woods, and subtle hints of blue, you'd never guess this sweet, airy bedroom was once outdated and lacking in personality. Before the makeover, the empty room had dull beige walls and little natural light, but some thoughtful, easy updates by designer Erin Wheeler proved a dreamy sleep space was within reach.
Before
After
The existing closet was expanded into a master bath, and to instantly lighten the space, the walls and trim were painted in a crisp white shade. Next, floral wall decals were added behind the bed to create a budget-friendly accent wall. brushed gold sconces and glossy-topped nightstands were added on either side, with space left for personal touches, like fresh blooms and books.
Throughout the room, simple white window shutters maximize natural light. And to expand the space, Wheeler added rows of natural wood beams to the ceiling. Underfoot, a tasseled rug gives the floral-clad design a modern edge and pairs well with the neutral, textured bedding.
