A comprehensive bathroom remodel is likely to cost $15,000 or more; a complex bathroom remodel can easily top $50,000. Read on to learn how much the different parts of your bathroom remodel will cost, projects you can DIY to save money, and when you might want to call in the experts.

Vanity

Cost: $500 – $1,500 (Cost varies based on size, number of sinks, quality, and color.)
For your bathroom remodel, you will want to choose a vanity size that fits your space well. Make sure you leave enough room for the toilet along with space to move around. A custom vanity is also an option but will cost more. For more information on choosing the right bathroom vanity size, check out our Vanity Dimensions: How to Find the Right Size for You guide!

Tip!

Save some money (and space) by choosing a bathroom sink instead of a full vanity. Want to learn more about your options? We can help you with that in our Types of Bathroom Sinks guide.

Mirror

Cost: $100 – $500 (Cost varies based on size and shape.)
Mirrors come in all shapes and sizes. Choose a mirror that complements the vanity or sink and your lighting choice. Also consider whether you want one long mirror over a double vanity or two individual mirrors that sit above each sink.

It’s also important to select a mirror that fits your space. The mirror should be slightly smaller than the width of your vanity or sink and tall enough for you and your family to look into. If you choose lighting that will be installed above the mirror, make sure to account for that space as well.

Toilet

Cost: $150 – $500 (Cost varies based on height, shape, and brand.)
Your bathroom remodel wouldn't be complete without a toilet! Toilets come in all shapes and sizes, so check out our Toilet Buying Guide to determine which size, style, and features will work best for you and your family. Lighting

Cost: $100 – $300 (Cost varies based on size, number of lights, and finish.)
Something as simple as lighting can transform your bathroom remodel. Choose your vanity lighting depending on how many lightbulbs you need. (Check out our Types of Lightbulbs: How to Choose the Right One guide for tips!) Consider how much natural light your bathroom gets, the size of your bathroom, and if you need task lighting for doing your makeup. We recommend 70–80 lumens per square foot. Note that more lights may increase the cost.

You can opt to put vanity lighting above your mirror or place sconce lighting on either side of your mirror. Wall sconces are a trendy way to update your space while still getting the appropriate lighting. Floor Tile

Cost: $3 – $15/square foot (Cost varies based on size, style, material, and color.)
Floor tile can be as affordable or as expensive as you want it to be, so a great place to start is choosing floor tile based on your style. Floor tile is versatile, so you can make it fun or keep it simple. Choosing a mosaic tile or installing the tile in a pattern, like herringbone, will add character and a vocal point to the space.

The cost of the tile will depend on the square footage of your bathroom, so be sure to measure before you begin shopping. Find out the best flooring option for your bathroom remodel using our guide How to Choose the Best Flooring for Your Bathroom.

Window Treatments

Cost: $50 – $200 (Cost varies based on size, material, and brand.)
Privacy is definitely a must when it comes to a bathroom remodel, so window treatments should be included in your budget. Cordless blinds or shades in bathrooms are ideal because they are easy to use and you do not have to worry about a cord. Just keep in mind, cordless options will cost more than the corded versions.

Faucet

Cost: $75 – $300 (Cost varies based on size, finish, and brand.)
Faucets are similar to toilets: They come in all kinds of sizes, finishes, and brands. Do your research on what style will be right for your bathroom. Our Bathroom Faucet Buying Guide is a great place to start!

Wall Tile or Paneling

$500 – $5,000 (Cost varies based on square footage and material.)
Adding tile or shiplap to your bathroom walls can really take your bathroom to the next level. Wall tile or paneling is not essential for a bathroom remodel, but is something you could price-out and decide on later. You will want to calculate the square footage of the wall you want to add tile or paneling to before shopping.

Wall Decor & Decor Accents

$50 – $300
Wall decor and decor accents will finish off your space and create a feeling of home. You can find very affordable pieces, like candles and baskets, or more expensive items, like over-the-toilet shelving and wall art.

Contractor Costs

Cost: Dependant
While DIY-ing your bathroom remodel might save you a lot of money, you may choose to hire subcontractors for parts of the remodel. A herringbone tile pattern on the floor and subway tile on the wall may be more than you're willing to take on, so hiring a tile installer might be something to consider. Similarly, if you're intimidated by plumbing, call around and get quotes on plumbers to help in the installation process.
