My two kitties love their new space! We have two 9 months old kitties that we rescued when they were 3 12 weeks old. They are indoor cats but we wanted to give them a safe sanctuary when are not home. I put the structure together myself and it probably would have gone quicker if I had help but I took my time and the instructions were easy enough to follow. The wood is strong enough for indoor but I don’t think it would last long outside in the elements. I didn’t use the roofing material that came with it since I have it inside the house. I have two 12 pound 1-year old cats, and I bought this thinking one would sleep on top and one would sleep in the basket. Of course they tussle over who gets the top and neither uses the basket at all. Only once I've seen them sleeping on the top together, so it will fit both. I took away one star because the tree is not as sturdy as I hoped. It's well made and was easy to assemble, but it sways a bit since everything is balanced on the single tree trunk, despite tightening as much as we could. I put a small plastic bin full of landscape rocks on the base to counterbalance so it doesn't sway too far or tip over when a cat leaps onto it. The mid range height is perfect for placement behind our sofa, so it doesn't block the view of the TV from the kitchen. The top level is very soft and both cats love to stretch out and sleep there. I did not attach the large fluffy ball, because it contains a rather annoying rattle. Overall this is nice, but definitely for 1-2 cats that aren't too big. I think the listing said 3 cats up to 22 pounds each, but that doesn't seem realistic in my opinion. It's a good looking cat tree that blends into the decor better than some others.. Katie. This has been a great addition to our cats’ furniture collection! The smalleryounger cat loves to sleep on the flower on top, which is made of something like memory foam, but a bit denser. She will curl up in it for hours and has since I took it out of the box. Her sister is terrified of the entire thing and avoids even being near it. I have no idea why. The shelf gets 5 stars from “Mona Lisa”, a 9lb. 1yr old kitty. On the other hand “Miss Piggy”, a 13 lb 4yr old cat, says this is a nicely built 5 star quality kitty shelf, great for climbing and dodging the other cats, but it only gets 3 stars for comfort. It’s a great quality shelf, but “Mona Lisa” is the only cat who will use this shelf to relax in, since she’s so small. The other 5 cats do not use this shelf to relax in, it’s mostly used for getting up off the floor to safety and a means to get up to the longer andor flatter shelves which are the preferred destination shelves.. I was not sure whether it would work for my cats or not so it was good enough size and price for me to give it a try. I needed one with open bottom because my cats eat our grass. For that reason, I searched and searched until I found this one. the bottom slats are movable with this one. It works for us. It also looks pretty cute and leaving it on our front yard is not an eye sore. It is not hard to put together but you need to pay attention to put the right pieces in right places. It took me a few hours. It is light weight so it can be easily moved around by myself. My cats like to be in the cage for an hour or two.
