Trend Watch: 2023 Holiday Edition

Our hospitality design manager weighs in on the three styles taking over this holiday season.

As the festive season approaches, Pros are looking for ways to make their spaces merry and bright for the holidays and beyond. The trends we’re seeing for hotels, restaurants, and even offices have a versatility that will stay fresh well into the new year – perfect for a low-maintenance, long-lasting update. We sat down with our hospitality design manager, Lindsey Zborowski, for the details and tips on how you can re-create these looks in your own space.

Le Play Chalet

This twist on the classic “après-ski” look is filled with nostalgic nods and just the right amount of kitsch. (Think: colored string lights and retro-inspired fondue sets.) “It’s so warm and inviting – makes you want to gather around the fire with a hot mug of cocoa and some board games,” says Lindsey. “That cozy, communal feel is what this trend is all about and works beautifully in any common area.” She also highlights how malleable the look is, noting, “It can evolve as the season progresses. Add some tinsel, ornaments, and greenery in December, then scale back to that quintessential winter vibe after the holidays.”

Nordic Noel

“Our take on the hygge look leans minimalist, but with a cozy, lived-in vibe,” says Lindsey of this spirited rendition of Scandinavian style. To achieve the laid-back look, she recommends incorporating playful, nature-inspired holiday decor and casually strewn throw blankets to soften a snowy white palette. Unconventional touches of pink, blue, and yellow round out the space, feeling undeniably festive when paired with natural greenery and beaded garlands. Lindsey predicts this trend will be especially big in the short-term-rental space, explaining, “It’s an approachable, simple-to-replicate look that will have guests feeling at home for the holidays.”

Enchanted Tropics

“Biophilic design meets the resurgence of art deco” is how Lindsey describes this unexpected holiday trend. “It’s such a celebratory look but doesn’t feel tied to one specific holiday,” she says, looking at her jewel-toned and gilded-palm-filled mood board. Hotels and restaurants will undoubtedly jump onto the look, but Lindsey also sees it as an inclusive way for offices to get in on festive fun. “The stark departure from ubiquitous red-and-green not only stands out but creates a joyful space for anyone to enjoy – no matter which holidays they celebrate.”
