Keeney Manufacturing Company’s “Plumber's Third Hand” is an innovative tool that makes garbage disposal installation simple by securing the disposal and flange in position. While garbage disposal installation typically requires two people, the Plumber’s Third Hand allows one person to easily install a disposal.
Before getting started, make sure the disposal flange is in place, then position the garbage disposal below the sink strainer opening. According to the manufacturer’s instructions, place the supplied parts on top of the disposer.
Now you're ready to get started:
In just 6 steps, you can install a garbage disposal with ease:
1. Lift the Disposer
- Insert Plumber's Third Hand through the open strainer hole and into the opening of the disposer. Lift the disposer a few inches from the cabinet base.
2. Secure
- Turn the spin-down locking mechanism clockwise until secure against the strainer opening. With the weight of the disposer now holding down the strainer, your hands are free to begin the installation.
3. Lock into Place
- Lift and place the disposer hardware around the strainer, and lock the snap ring into place. Firmly tighten the mounting plate screws against the base plate.
4. Lift All the Way Up and Secure
- Using the Plumber's Third Hand, lift the disposer up to the strainer base. Spin the spin-down locking mechanism until it is snug against the strainer opening (make sure not to over-tighten).
5. Connect Disposer and Mounting Plate
- Now that both hands are free to complete installation, line up the disposer’s lock ring with the mounting plate and twist the disposer counter-clockwise until the connection is tight.
6. Remove Plumber's Third Hand
- Turn the spin-down locking mechanism counter-clockwise to easily remove the Plumber's Third Hand from the disposer.
