How to Set a Whimsical Table
Your recipe for an inspiring (fuss-free) table setting.
A successful dinner party doesn't have to be fussy. If you're distracted by too many details, you won't enjoy spending time with your guests. Invite friends and family to soak up the gloaming with a stylish and bohemian-inspired soirée. Bonus: You can find many of these items in and around your house!
Place Settings
Throw a tablecloth over an outdoor table for a clean foundation. Use white table linens and simple plates to counterbalance the playful setup—and forgo placemats to avoid overcrowding. A napkin ring, like this twine-wrapped option, helps them from blowing away with evening breezes. Feel free to mix and match silverware sets. An eclectic mix will add to the carefree feeling of the tablescape.
Floral Centerpieces
This table setting's centerpiece steals the show with its playful mix of brass candlesticks placed in-between beautiful flower arrangements. Did you notice what we used for vases? This technique is perfect in a pinch! Simply grab a few bouquets at the store and fill everyday water glasses of varying heights and sizes.
Instead of making multiple mixed arrangements, we grouped flowers by type. If you aren't sure about how you've arranged the flowers and candles, take a seat and make sure you can see the guest across the table.
Name Cards
This rustic DIY takes little to execute. We strolled the beach for a few flat rocks and hand-painted name and table cards for guests. This unexpected addition made for a sweet memento for guests to bring home, too!
Soft Seating
Outdoor cushions create a comfy spot for seating, so we grabbed a few to make these benches a little cozier for the evening. We also love how the green stripes complement the pink blooms and colorful hobnail glasses.
