All play and no work meant this former rec room needed a face lift for the back to school season. Merrick, of Merrick’s Art, turned the space into a productive homework nook for her boys.
Using a black and white color palette, Merrick made the space clean and simple. Two pint-sized stools fit perfectly underneath the writing desk—one for each boy or one for mom when someone needs a little homework help. The cork boards add a natural element and let the children’s artwork shine as the pop of color in this focused space.

To create a cozy reading nook like the one Merrick made for her boys, layer a sheepskin rug over an area rug, then add a textured pouf or oversized pillows for easy lounging.
