How to Design Cabinets: The Custom Cabinet Design Process
In order to buy custom cabinetry on Wayfair, you’ll have to work directly with a Wayfair Designer, who will walk you through measuring, share an initial kitchen design, and ultimately help you place your order! These steps will outline the design and buying process you will go through.
Step 1: Get started. Fill out a form to tell us information about your custom cabinet design project, such as the estimated size of your kitchen, your vision for your cabinet project, your current kitchen style, the design and color you are interested in, and your inspiration behind the project.
In order to provide an accurate recommendation, we’ll want to understand your budget for the project. You can refer to our How Much Does a Kitchen Remodel Cost? guide to learn about the typical cost of new cabinets.
Once you’ve sent over that information, a designer will reach out via email within 2 business days to schedule an introductory call. During this call, you'll discuss the information you sent over and next steps.
Step 2: Submit your measurements. After the initial call, you’ll need to measure your kitchen and draw out your floor plan.

Step 3: Get a design. Get your initial custom design. After we have received your floor plan and measurements, your designer will build an initial rendering with your measurements, style, vision, and budget in mind.
Step 4: Work with your designer on revisions. Once you receive your rendering, it’s time to provide feedback on the design to fit your needs and wants. The designer will take your feedback and provide you with an updated rendering.
Step 5: Approve and purchase. When you are happy with your rendering, your designer will provide you with a final quote for the project. You will need to approve the order with your designer and sign off on the final design before your designer places the order on your behalf. Remember, your custom cabinet order cannot be canceled or returned.
Step 6: Sit back and relax. After your order is placed, you will receive an email with your order confirmation and information on your delivery window. We will deliver your new cabinets straight to your home, typically within 4 to 6 weeks (dependent upon industry lead times).
