Ask a Registry Specialist: The Basics

We asked MVP specialist (and former wedding planner), Cameron, to share his thoughts on what Wayfair couples ask most.


On how many gifts to register for: "Register for everything you want. If it's practical and it's important to you, put it on there. You can favorite the items you want most and add personal notes to guide guests."


On the best price points to include: "Know your guests and what they're likely to spend, and include a wide range of items. Family members who call are sometimes spending upwards of $100 on gifts, but others appreciate a variety of options. When registering, don’t forget about the little stuff, like kitchen gadgets and small items for the bathroom.”


On guidelines for where to start:

  • Everyday glassware: "Start with eight—register for basic sets of four or six."
  • Dinnerware: "Start with eight place settings—more, if you like to entertain."
  • Towels: "Start with six (three for each of you)—one to use, wash, and store."
  • Sheet sets: "Start with two—one on the bed, one in the closet."


On multipurpose gifts:  "It’s great to choose place settings that come with mugs for everyday use. And stemless wine glasses are a basic option that can be used often with different kinds of drinks."


On what's practical: " If you already live together, you may not need silverware or plates—what you might really need is a new couch or bed. Use group gifting, if you’d like to request something pricey."


On advice to remember: "You're starting a brand-new life. Do it with the things that are going to make you happiest as a couple."
