Method One
Before you begin, make sure you have a flat surface like a bed or table to work from. This task will also be easier if the sheets are still warm – so try folding them as soon as they come out of the dryer, or consider giving them a quick steam or iron before you start.
1. Begin by placing a hand in one corner of the fitted sheet, making sure the long side is going across your body and the top side is facing you.
2. Bring the second corner into that hand so both corners are folded over one hand.
3. Run your free hand down the elastic edge until you reach one of the bottom corners. Grab and tuck it into the first two corners.
4. Repeat sliding and tucking with the final corner. Straighten all edges at the bottom (where there is no elastic).
5. Place the fitted sheet on a flat surface. Looking at your sheet, identify the corner with the elastic edges.
6. Slightly flatten out the two sides touching that corner until you've created a sharper rectangle or square.
7. Fold it in thirds from the top to bottom. Then fold it in thirds again from left to right.
Tip!
It might be easier to have someone stand on the opposite side of you and mirror your method until the fitted sheet is small enough for a single person to handle.
Method Two
1. Lay the fitted sheet flat with the elastic edge facing upward. The four edges are what will help you fold the sheet more easily, so flatten them out until you can see each seam clearly.
2. Take the two bottom corners and tuck them up into the top corners so that all the seams align and you have a rectangle shape. Depending on the sheet size, you might be able to fold the bottom edge over twice before tucking the edges together.
3. Pat all the edges down to make them flat and neat, creating a rectangle with a crisp edge.
4. Flip the fitted sheet around and fold it in thirds from left to right, or fold the left third into the middle and followed by the right.
Method Three
1. Begin by laying your fitted sheet on a flat surface with the elastic edges facing upwards.
2. Reach into each of the corners and use the seam as a guide to create more pointed edges. Press along the side to form that clean line along the edges.
3. Identify the center line of the fitted sheet running from left to right.
4. Now take the bottom edge and fold it up to the middle line of the sheet.
5. Next, take the top edge and fold it down toward the middle so the top and bottom edges are now touching. Make sure to flatten the edges as you fold.
6. Now fold the sheet in half again to create a rectangle.
7. Finally, take the left hand edge and fold it over itself multiple times until it forms a neat shape.
Tip!
If none of these methods work for you, consider using a woven basket to store your fitted sheets out of sight.
