5 Things to Know Before Decorating Your Christmas Tree
These may surprise you.
To make this year’s Christmas tree your best yet, we’ve rounded up our most trusted (and often forgotten) tips. Take a look before decorating.
1. First, give branches some attention.
For the most beautiful tree, trim the tips of longer stray branches to shape. If your tree is artificial, fluff and fan out the tips in different directions.
2. Start your lights at the bottom.
Plug in your lights, then weave them throughout as you wrap up toward the top of the tree. You’ll need approximately 100 lights for every foot that the tree is high. To save time, pre-lit trees offer the perfect amount of light per branch.
3. Hang garlands from the top.
Whether hanging vertically or stringing around the tree, secure garlands at the top and drape down evenly to cover any holes and create a festive base.
4. Multi-size ornaments are key.
For the best look, space out larger ornaments, then hang small- and medium-size baubles throughout. Add a mix of shapes and textures for extra personality.
