Best Planters With Reviews

My 5 star review is for the planter that arrived undamaged. When this piece comes correct, it's great! One thing not visible in the product pictures is that it comes in the natural grey steel, unweathered. There are instructions (most of the time) on how to weather the piece if desired. I do think they should show pictures of how the product actually comes, so as not to throw customers off guard. Another thing not visible in the product photos is that along the long side in the middle, there tends to be welding dots sporadically of varying sizes and visibility which do take away from the clean look. But these will likely become less visible as the piece becomes weathered as desired. The main issue I have with this product is getting it delivered undamaged. To date, I've ordered three of these, and each of them came damaged. The first arrived with a major dent on the side. Luckily, I ordered this as a sample piece for a job and Wayfair was AWESOME about getting a replacement sent out asap (it was out of stock, so I did have to wait three-four weeks). The replacement arrived with no issues at all. Then, for the job, I ordered two more. Both of these arrived damaged. One, with a similar large dent to the first. The other, with a small dent right in the middle. Unfortunately, I never opened these when they arrived, instead keeping them safely packed until we installed our job. So I'm here, and see that they are damaged, but I have no choice but to use. Again, Wayfair was great and refunded the badly damaged one, and offered a discount on the other -- but I really would have been happier to have an undamaged product. If I had more time, I'd get a replacement. Don't let these shipping issues discourage the purchase, though. Wayfair will make it right. I just wish the manufacturer would take note that the very thin styrofoam they pack these with is just not sufficient for consumer shipping. I'm not sure if this is a problem with our local UPS team, or something downline from us, but better packing would remedy this issue.

This handsome looking planter met our expectations and is a full five-star rated. Has lent a warm look to our front porch. Because of the extreme heat and near-constant strong wind, we elected to fill the planter with sturdy ornamental grasses with a few smaller flowering plants tucked in. The product's web description is accurate without fault, and yes it indeed has a weight of 30 lbs when EMPTY! The planter arrives in a somewhat dull metal finish. As an outdoor decorator item, I elected to spray on a simple common household ingredients mixture to quickly create an age rusted look. Various recipes for such are easy to locate on the internet. Because the planter was for outdoor use, I elected to not spend the time and money to apply a sealer to the surface. This turned out to be a big mistake. Because when moister from rains or overspray from lawn sprinkler hits the surface of my carefully created rust layered pattern, it literally is partially washed off. Suspect that over time this is not an issue as additional rust layers and patterns are created.

We bought two of these planters medium size at 21" x 21" x 22" high for $178 each. They are very well constructed of medium gauge steel with all the welding well done and cleaned to smooth. The bases are constructed in a manner that has the planter boxes appear to be elevated about an inch above the surface .. a nice look. You could not possibly have these made at this quality of this material for this price, so we consider them a bargain. There is a removable plug in the bottom of the planter. As you can see from the photos we added, one of the planters had rusted quite a bit inside the packaging, which was very good, including styrofoam and plastic. The other planter was fairly virgin steel. In order to rust them equally and end up with our desired finish, we washed them with a hose and then applied Muriatic acid to about 50% of the surface with a rag. Be sure to use rubber gloves and eye protection. After a second touch up application, and when dried, we used fine steel wool to knock down the rust and provide the desired patina. Once achieved, we did two coats of Rust-oleum Universal CLEAR Dead Flat as shown in one photo. This resulted in a non shiny surface and will protect the surface from rusting beyond the patina we wanted. The last few photos show the end result. Highly recommend these planters!

I bought two of these planters and am so glad I did! They add the sleek luxurious modern look to my front door that I was wanting to achieve! They arrived well packaged and seem to be very well made. I also like the insert planter which makes it easier to lift if I want to change out my plants or give a good watering. I put the plugs for the drainage holes on the bottom of the planter and not on the insert so that water does not drip on my front porch. There are pre-drilled holes in both the planter and the insert so the choice is yours. My only concern is that I hope they do retain their rich black color and don’t fade after a summer, only time will tell. So far, I am thrilled with my decision to buy and yes, I do recommend this planter!

These are sooooo classy and cute! Gave my sideyard entry way a touch of green. At first I was just going to put faux succulents since I’m Not sure what can take a Texas heat since I just moved here from Cali. But I went to the nursery and found some real succulents that can take some sun. I ended up with a top row of faux succulents, that I got from wayfair also arranged those with a hot glue gun, stones and plant foam. Then the bottom row with some cilantro and succulents. They have a draining hole that works great, two inserts. One with holes one without. So I did have to go through them and remove the extra insert and make sure it was the hole one so it could drain since they’re for the exterior. So yes, take out the insert and fill up with your choice of foliage and snap it back in. It’s not perfect square so you do have to jimmy in and out. Product is just as listed, love them!

Very happy with this purchase. Sturdy and clean design. I also like the height it adds to the room. As other reviews have mentioned, there is a hole in the center of the pot, so water could drain onto the wood stand that sits right under the pot. However, our pot came with a small, clear plastic base to add around the bottom, presumably to catch water, so it appears the manufacturer has tried to fix the issue. I didn’t use this plastic piece because it looked tacky to me. My plant happened to be in a smaller pot already, so I simply placed it inside this pot, and I haven’t had any water drainage issues. I think you could also find an inexpensive planter bowldish to place inside the pot instead to catch any water.

The gold color is less shiny but Im thrilled with these planters. Well made and sturdy but no drain hole. They were well wrapped in bubble wrap to prevent scratches. Im very displeased, however, with FedEx shipping. The package was delivered in the rain and the driver couldnt be bothered to walk 5 extra steps to reach the covered part of the porch with the extremely lightweight package. It appeared the driver walked to the porch steps, gave the package a shove, and thats where it stayed. There is even a ramp on the porch if stairs were the issue. When I found the package the following morning, the box was so waterlogged it was spongy. Its lucky the planters werent something else or they could have been ruined.

These are excellent quality planter boxes. Yes, you pay a little bit more, but they look fantastic and they are very high quality. The plastic is a very thick molded plastic, and it's all one piece so it has no seams that can crack or leak. In the past I've had planters that started to buckle or bulge out from the weight of the soil over time. These won't do that. I have the 'window planter' version from them and it's been on my deck for 3 years (including over some frigid Canadian winters) and it's in perfect condition still. It hasn't discolored, stretched/bent, or shown any signs of cracking over this time, and these planters seem like they're the same high quality. These fit a lot of water in them as well so your plants can make it through the day in hot/dry weather, and much longer in cooler weather. The hole to fill the side walls up with water needs to be drilled (you'll need a 3/4" drill bit), and it can be made either on the top lip or the back of the planter (instructions are in the box). I just put mine on the top towards the back of the planter and you can't see it at all once the plants are in there. I love that these are an actual square shape and not tapered. These were going on either side of our garage door and anything tapered just didn't seem to look right. These fit perfectly for the space, with a cedar tree inside each of them. They're probably a little pricier than other planters because they'd be harder to ship since they can't be recessed into one another like other planters can, in addition to the high quality of them, but this is definitely a case of getting what you pay for. Highly recommend these!

These planters are great and as I mentioned in the headline, especially for someone that forgets to water! They have a water reserve system that is ideal for New England summers. Make sure you really think through the size you want. I think I went a bit big and could have gone with the smaller planter. they are a bit big for my front steps, but I think eventually I'll move them to a back patio that I'd like to install and then I'll buy the next size down for the front. Pros: Water reserve system; and cost for the durability Cons: Size ...but that was my issue for not really measuring as well

I had many compliments on these planters last summer. I filled them with tall spikes and a variety of flowers, including trailing ones that spilled over the sides and looked lovely. In the winter, I put a potted evergreen plant in each one. Our planters are white, and I had them on either side of the garage. From a distance, they look like wood planters. The planters feature a water reservoir in the bottom, but I preferred to have the water drain out so my husband drilled drainage holes in the bottom. The plastic is very sturdy and washable. The one problem I had is that we sometimes have high winds here, and they would actually blow over. Nothing broke or cracked, however. This spring, I am going to try filling the bottom with something like pea gravel to make them less top heavy and likely to blow over.

I ordered both the 7 box and the 2 box for our porch. Minus one star because they shipped us a 6 box instead, but they also answered the phone at 8 p.m. on a Friday night and shipped the correct sized box immediately. They werent able to expedite its shipping. The longer ones come with 5 brackets (at least for mounting). We mounted ours on wood pieces behind the box. Tip for putting it together - snip the glue cap 12 am inch down for more flow. You wont run out of glue. Also, if you get the brackets, you can glue them to the bottom of the window box. We did that, centering one on the two foot box. Overall, Im very pleased with the purchase.

It gets Hot in the South. In the summer, your flowers must be watered daily or they tend to develop a very crisp, burnt look. I’m excited about this self watering planter box. I know the flowers currently in it, cry for water. Lots of it. When this piece arrived, I was a little disappointed. I thought maybe I made the wrong choice with size. I felt like it was going to be way too large in scale compared to everything else. This planter fits in perfectly. Not only do my flowers fit, I have room for more. But, I opted for the hugging bunnies. I think the bunnies helped make my large planter fit right in, nice and cozy, with everything else in my (work in progress) newly redecorated back yard.

The expectations were higher than what I received. The build quality is mediocre as other reviews have said. The assembly is straightforward enough, however the joints for the assembly itself do not line up for a nice finished product. Also the corner joints leave wide enough gaps that any soil that is put into the planter will come out of the corners. I repaired the box with interior carpentry work on the corners and the put clear preservative on the wood to protect it. I kept it because I was to far along with the assembly to want to repackage and return it. Be advised that this planter will most likely not be able to hold wet soil weight in the entire box area it’s not strong enough. The carpentry quality is 8th grade shop class work at best. If you are looking for a high end planter with good finish, this is not up to that standard. I was and always look for made in the USA these days and the description did not tell me it was made in China or I would have passed on it. I only found out that fact when it arrived. More mediocre quality from a non USA manufacturer. The 4 stars are because Wayfair is a good company to deal with. I hope the planter will last a little while with the work I pu into it.

Very impressed with the care they took packaging this. I have had a handful of experiences where items have arrived broken due to a lack of proper handling but this came in a box with dense foam glued to the edges and sides then snuggly placed in another box and stapled shut. Not a dent or scratch on either one. Slightly bigger and oddly a lighter than I expected them to be. The picture attached is of the smaller planter. Look great and very happy with them

Ordered 2 for our front porch. When they arrived, they were wrapped in cardboard with plastic wrap, the netting inside was in pieces. when we went to see about mounting them, we found that the holes did not line up on both side which meant it would not hang evening. We called and Wayfair immediately replaced them. They arrived ahead of schedule and the replacement set came in much better condition. They arrived in a secured box, the liner looked new and was one piece. First thing my husband said, "This is so much better quality than the first set". I feel like we were originally sent an order that may have been returned and wasn't happy but Wayfair did good and what we have now looks great and much better quality.

After reading reviews, I double checked for leaks before filling with dirt. I did not have nickel size holes anywhere in mine . So I chose to grow one indoors and one outdoors. I did read a lot of reviews stating tubes where the bobber (leaf) stick goes thru. The punch job in the tube was terrible - I had to scrap a knife inside (when disassembled) on both boxes - as the punch scrap piece was still attached and would impact floating bobber (leaf) Also read that folks had challenges inserting / breaking their cross beams/divider bars. The punched cut outs for inserting was far from perfect, I inserted the knife tip in and cleared the hole for easy insert. I’ve had no leaks in either the indoor garden or the outdoor garden. Packaging was fine, assembly was easy. But I would ensure cut out are clear from scrap plastics before assembly!! And test for leaks of water before putting dirt in. Lastly, I’m glad I had water in garden before dirt, as when adding dirt, I was already watering from underneath / and visually knew how much water I had added to start. Otherwise you don’t really know how much is in there once you start for the first time. Hopefully I’m able to edit review as the weeks go on...
