I only gave this 4 stars because I don't have any experience with anything to which I could compare this product. It matches the description, seems to work well, although I'm understanding that there is a "technique" that I probably don't quite have mastered... yet. It's simple to use, and "less is more" when it comes to applying pressure and getting the correct angle, etc. I like that it has adjustable width/angle settings - this feature seems to make sense to me and I noticed that cheaper units generally do not include this - but, again, I've never used any other sharpener so it's hard to say if this is really a needed feature. The instructions mention that some knives are ground and sharpened differently than what and how this machine operates - and that those knives will require repeated grinding to conform to the type of edge produced here (they mention that some may have to be run through the 3-step process as many as 10 times before you achieve a desirable edge that can be kept sharp with this machine). I've used it on a pocket knife, and 3 kitchen/cooking knives so far and it has worked very well - I encountered no problems and the knives came out great. Although I haven't tried it yet, the instructions also say that it will work on serrated knives, but only on the "flat" side and that you could eventually grind the saw tooth pattern off of the knife blade. This machine will not do scissors, but I knew that, so as far as doing the job it was designed to do, it seems to work well (and the sale price was irresistible) Pros: As advertised, works well, great price Cons: none so far

I cook everyday for the family and then our house seems to be the gathering place for basketball, baseball and football games. It's good that I love to cook! In this economy, you have to look for ways to save money when feeding all of these people. I stock up on whole chickens and large cuts of beef and pork ....when they are on sale. With good sharp knives, you can butcher chickens into pieces, cut beef into roasts, steaks, cubes, strips and cut your own pork roasts and chops and trim off extra fat. As Ron Popeil says, "I can cut a hole in the wall (to make a bigger house for all of these people) and still slice a tomato". As previous reviews stated, practice on old knives to get comfortable with sharpener. But, it's really very easy! Pros: No more trips to professional knife sharpener.

I was so tired of throwing out fresh produce every week! I could feel my wallet burning every time I went to eat some fruit or veggies from the fridge, only to find mold after just a couple days. The price of this sharpener made me hesitant to buy it, but it was worth every penny. I use it to sharpen my Global cooking knifes and it keeps them razor sharp! I also used it to hone some well worn Pinzon knives and it fixed damage that the edges had from years of using a cheap ceramic sharpener.

This is a handy set that gives a surprisingly good edge. I have both diamond and Japanese whetstones, but sharpening with them can be a lengthy and painstaking procedure. When one simply wants to freshen up a knife to chop some vegetables, the process takes less than a minute. Good value

I wasn't sure about this purchase at first but I was pleasantly surprised when it sharpened all of my knives perfectly. Just follow the directions which comes as an easy to follow insert with the knife sharpener and you will be fine.

I love this Honing Steel. I have 6 knives that I’ve been sharpening on a stone for years. I used my new honing steel on each. In no time they were as sharp as the day I got them! I definitely recommend this product!

I just received the knife sharpener. It seems to sharpen the knives and they work much better than expected. My knives are very dull and was planning on buying new ones. This has saved them for a few more months. The gloves is good for the extra protection while sharpening the knives.

I purchased this after getting the 7-piece Ron knife set, and it is equally as impressive as those knives. The steel is nice and heavy, and the grip is comfortable. I was able to quickly get a very sharp edge on my well-used knives, so this was absolutely worth it. The guide that it came with was also really well written, if you’re not used to sharpening your knives to a finish after the whetstone.

I have som good quality knives and was looking for a quality sharpener for them. I purchased the BergHOFF brand because it offered a 3-stage process. I’ve had it for a week now and used it to sharpen over twenty knives! It works very well!

This is a simple, useful tool for knives. It does sharpen them, but not over sharpen with just a few passes. I have been worried about my dull knives for awhile.Now squash and pineapple are easy and safer to cut.Not expensive,not professional-exactly what I need!
