The directions indicate that a screw driver is needed, however everything needed to assemble is included in the package. On the website it says the mattress is not included, however this is one. This crib is a beautiful color and was very easy to assemble. I also appreciate the spring base that is metal, instead of some cribs that just use plastic. I took one star away because the finish is fragile. My baby is only a few months old and the bars are missing paint from her sleep sack zipper hitting the bars when she rolls around.
