The trunk is as it looks. Hinges seem strong but even if they weren't, the wood is so light that it wouldn't hurt fingers. If you are looking for a solid piece of furniture, this isn't it. Time will tell how this guy holds up! Assembly was a little bit of a pain, do note that you have to take tons of screws OUT upon unpacking. I though I had missing pieces. The shipping box makes it almost impossible to repack once you unpack it, so make sure you want it! Some of the panels were bent, but upon installing I realized it didn't matter, the frame aligns them and it's virtually unnoticeable. Other than that, the item feels really well made and sturdy once all together. It isn't meant to be water proof, only water resistant. It's very nice looking, and the light color is beautiful. Overall it's pretty sturdy once put together. I do like the heavy lid with shocks to help open and close. It's metal except for the bottom which is plastic. It does look nice. I did like the bag insert that velcro's in place and zips shut to keep bugs and such out. It's also fairly lightweight to move around. This was a pain to put together. I've assembled plenty of things without difficulty but this was time consuming with all the screws and cut myself twice on the sharp metal. They do provide good gloves for this though so wear them! Also the latch didn't line up correctly when the lid is closed and can't be adjusted so I have to push down on the lid to get a lock on it. Overall I'm happy enough with the purchase.. Anonymous.
