I believe it’s there to prevent scratches during shipping. We found that letting the panels sit in the sun for a bit made the film much easier to peel off. Tile is gorgeous on both floor and walls. I will post a photo when the bathroom is finished. Unfortunately almost 1/2 of the rectangular tiles arrived broken and we opened the boxes too late . 93 days!
