I bought this because it was small and made of metal, not plastic. I discovered that the base is actually plastic, but is covered by the 'crumb tray'. This is my 2nd dehydrator exactly like this..I love my current one and needed to replace one of my old basis dehydrators before the dehydration season was over. Tip: if you dehyrate alot of medicinal herbs- like I do. Cut out window screen and place on each tray. Do not cut out the center.
