It’s more like 7ish inches, but still makes a world of difference compared to a 6-inch mattress. Pictures are taken after 36 hours of sitting. Took shape immediately after unbagging. The recliner is great! However, the fabric is not what was advertised. It stated the fabric was a faux leather, which would be easy to clean/wipe off (I have some medical issues). When the recliner was received, it was a suede-type fabric. I still really like the recliner and don't want to send it back, but it was disappointing that the advertised material was not correct since that was the main reason I chose this style.
