Mounted independently of the grille, they are opened and closed with a flathead screwdriver, provided by the customer. In some cases, you may have to remove the grille to adjust louvers. Allow 2 5/16" clearance for louvers behind grille. Foam strips for installation are included with each louver. The vent cover arrived quickly and in good condition. I like the modern, clean style and the screws are hidden. The installation instructions are clear and remind you multiple times to measure the opening and purchase the cover appropriate for the space. There is no wheel or mechanism to open and close the baffles. You use your fingers or a screwdriver which could be a pain if you are using it in a ceiling or other difficult to access area. Aesthetically 5 stars, installation 3 stars. The video instructions for this register from the manufacturer did not work for the brackets we received. We had to flip them all around.
