The medallion arrived on time and was well-packaged, arriving in good condition. Overall, it looks nice and should work well for my project. Gable vents work to provide ventilation, releasing stagnant air, preventing damage from humidity, and optimizing temperature control. Gable vents are particularly useful during the summer months when hot air rises and is trapped in the attic, where it can transfer itself down through the ceiling and back into the level below, decreasing the effectiveness of air conditioning systems A gable vent is located at the attic area, commonly on the exterior wall where the two planes of a sloping roof join, forming a triangle. The gable can be any symmetrical shape, but the triangle is among the most common. Other vent shapes include rectangles, steeples, circles, and octagons. Gable vents are fitted with horizontal ventilation slats called louvers. You can add a mesh screen to be placed behind the vent. This allows air to circulate while keeping outside elements where they belong. A gable mounted ventilator helps to push air through the louvers. The ventilator removes air from the attic through the use of turbines or fans. The gable ventilator commonly requires no carpentry, as it is mounted on the interior of the wall behind the gable, however, electrical installation is required.

These corbels work well for our mantel situation, although for my personal taste, I wish they were a bit less detailed. They are exactly as advertised. I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted in the right size, and these will work until I do. Our mantel needed to have a bit more “heft”, and this seemed like a good way to get that. They are super light-weight, obviously not made of real wood, but because they are painted, you can’t tell that. And with there being so light, they are pretty much trouble free to install. Pediments are the portion of the trim that is located above the pilasters, which are the column-like frames on the sides of windows and doors. Directly below the pediments though, between the pediment and the pilasters, is a crosshead or breastboard. The crosshead is the flatter, protruding section directly above the door. Pediments can be purchased by themselves or can come with a crosshead already attached. These Pediments are manufactured out of high-density urethane, which is made to resemble wood without the maintenance required by wood products. Urethane products are resistant to cracking, splitting, and rotting. They are usually less expensive than wood alternatives.
