While it says it can be used in the dishwasher, I would recommend hand washing to make sure the coating on the wooden handles remains in good shape. The material is super cute and looks like it does in the pictures. I put mine in front of the tray with my kitty's food and water fountain, and I can report that the material is easy to wipe clean as needed.
