Also want to add that it's no good without the base, and had a heck of a time arguing with Wayfair "customer service" because they sent me two bases and no barrel. I finished the install on this with my own paver platform and rain chain. Had our first rain already and filled it up. I did replace the spigot. It’s a perfect fit, no leaks, and excellent pressure. I’m still giving it 5 stars because I got my barrel when it was marked down. The sale price the new spigot was still cheaper than the regular price d barrel. These spigots are located at locations to optimize flow: One at the bottom to get the most out of the barrel and one on the side to utilize buckets and linking. The spigots are 3/4" and will work with all standard hoses. The top of the barrel holds a locking, removable top. By twisting, you can keep the barrel sealed to protect young ones and keep out mosquitos. Just twist it the other way and it lifts off. At the center of the lid is a mesh screen that will accommodate all standard downspouts and keep out bugs and leaves. The tapered nature of the lid minimizes splashing and funnels all the water toward the anti-debris screen. Great barrel that has a removable top. I daisy-chained two together and also put a 2 inch pipe connector in the second one to run water to a separate project. I've put soaker hoses on most of the brass spigots (not in this pic), and I obviously raised the barrels pretty high to maximize gravity for water pressure. Put these in two days ago and waiting for a good rain so I haven't seen them fill up yet. The rain barrel looks as nice as the pictures. The mesh to keep the bugs out does not fits snuggly snuggly and I will need to add aluminum screen. There are two round cut outs near the top at the back of the rain barrel and I assume that’s for venting air as the barrel fills as well as when water is dispensed. Or I suppose it could be for overflow There was no diagram of the rain barrel explaining all the nuances. These whiskey barrel planters are great. Our family has had three more just like them for 16 years. One is used as a small water feature with a bamboo fountain and the other two as traditional planters. Because of the size and material the soil does not dry out too quickly. For these two new ones, I've converted them into self-watering planters using sturdy 22 inch saucers and 1/2 inch solid-braid nylon rope for wicking the water up into the soil.
