What is your favorite room in the house and why?
I love the kitchen. We spend a lot of time in this space cooking, entertaining, or enjoying company while listening to music. It has such a happy vibe, day and night!

What advice do you have for those who want to achieve your style?
Keep things neutral with a few pops of color. I personally like green tones and deep reds. I think it’s most important to find things you love. If you fill your home with items that make you happy, it will be a personal space you feel comfortable living in. I would also say to focus on classic investment pieces, rather than buying high price tag, trendy items.

What do you hide when company comes over?
Dog stuff! My giant schnauzer, Finn, has lots of toys and a couple beds. He usually scatters them throughout the house, so before guests arrive I shove all dog items in a bin and stash it in the basement or a closet.

What was your biggest decorating, renovation, or DIY failure?
I tried to save money on paint and purchased a couple gallons from the sale bin. Against my better judgement (and design training), I convinced myself the paint was a neutral white. Rather than painting a sample swatch, I just went for it. I painted the entire living room and once it dried it was obviously pink. My husband walked in and his jaw dropped. Needless to say, I repainted the entire room and ended up spending more money on paint.

How would you describe your decor style?
A mix of many things: modern, eclectic, minimal, and even a little bohemian. If I find a piece I’m attracted to, I’ll purchase it even if it doesn’t fit a specific genre. I think if you fill your home with things you like, it automatically becomes a place you love and a representation of your own style.

What was the inspiration for your home?
I mainly wanted our home to feel clean, organized and functional. It was a foreclosure and we completely renovated it ourselves, so for a long period of time it was in a chaotic state. I think this makes me appreciate it even more!

What items did you splurge on and on which did you save?
I splurged on the master bedroom, kitchen renovation, and lighting and plumbing fixtures. I saved on draperies, tile, and a lot of our furniture, which was thrift and vintage.
