This holiday season, ditch the canned cranberry sauce for an updated version with fresh cranberries and nutritious chia seeds. (Chia seeds are full of fiber, protein, calcium, and many more vitamins.) This Thanksgiving your family and friends won't pass on cranberry sauce, they'll be asking for more!

Cranberry Chia Seed Sauce

Serves 4-6

3/4 cup water
1/4 cup apple juice
1 cup sugar
1 10-ounce bag fresh or frozen cranberries
1/4 cup chia seeds

In a small saucepan, bring water, apple juice, and sugar to a boil. Stir in the cranberries and chia seeds. Return to a boil, then lower heat and let the cranberries simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.

Let the cranberry chia sauce cool slightly, then transfer to a bowl. Serve at room temperature or cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
