Before the designers at Decorist stepped in, this guest room's awkward layout and mismatched furniture left it feeling like an afterthought—a space that hardly extended a warm welcome to overnight visitors. But with a little TLC, this dark, cramped spare room was completely transformed into a light and airy retreat sure to make any guest feel at home. Read on to see how the makeover came together.

A heavy sleigh bed in the corner blocked light from the window, and the pale yellow walls paired with the darker carpet created a dreary, dated effect. A wingback armchair left no space for a nightstand, while a large armoire in the corner further chopped up the room.

A fresh coat of soft gray-blue paint (try Sherwin-Williams' Site White, SW 7070) and crisp white curtains provided an instant refresh. The neutral color palette of white, grays, and subtly patterned textiles set a soothing atmosphere. Switching to a symmetrical layout, with a centered bed flanked by matching nightstands, made the small space feel roomier. Swapping the heavy bed for a latticed headboard lightened the look while adding architectural interest.
