Best Murphy Beds With Reviews

I was looking for an extra bed without the commitment of a full-time bedroom, and this Murphy bed fit the bill. It took about 2.5 hours to put together by myself. I referenced the assembly youtube to help get the actual visual process along the way. There were reviews about the mattress not being super comfortable (I would agree- functional, not what I would offer to a guest), so I purchased a memory topper for when it's being used. It is easy to transform to a bed. I did also make sure I had a rug to put under it, as someone commented that the one frame piece is not connected to the rest of the frame when in bed form and might move around. It is a quality piece of furniture, looks lovely in both forms, and has made my bonus room an extra space for guests.

This is a very good quality piece of furniture. Vary heavy once it’s all together! All hard wood. The mattress is very comfortable. It came shipped in three large pieces (plus another box with the mattress in it). Boxes were a bit heavy, but my husband and I were able to get them in the house pretty easily. Since most of it is already assembled it’s actually pretty easy to put together! Took us about 1-2 hours. The only thing that didn’t turn out perfect are the cabinet doors. They’re just slightly crooked, making them a bit difficult to close, but that should be easy to adjust by moving the hinges a bit. We highly recommend!!

Great product! I looked for months and read tons of reviews on so many Murphy beds…it was exhausting. So I’m writing this review to hopefully help others in the same situation. First, this comes in 5 separate boxes. I’m going to give a few pointers to help out your assembly. My husband and I had this completely assembled within an hour! Each box has a number that will be included on the instructions. Open the box with the hardware, get your instructions and go to page 2. Dump all hardware and separate. I put mine into ziplock bags and label “A”, “B” etc. If you do this first, it makes the task of assembly much easier. No fishing through hardware to find the right size. Everything fit properly and it’s pretty sturdy. I was concerned that this would take hours (per most reviews on Murphy beds) but nope! 1 hour and done. Hope this helps ya!

Many, many things to praise about this bed. It looks great. It was packaged very well, so there was no damage. They include extra screws and bolts. Great design. I assembled it by myself in about 2 hours. But I am a contractor, so I may have an advantage. LOL Interesting note: Some ready to assemble furniture cannot be disassembled when you move. This chest can easily be taken apart when you decide to move. Great feature. Some of the other reviews mentioned that the front panel sounded like it was breaking when you get in bed. That was very true for me. So I bought some OSB panels and lay them over the base before unfolding the mattress. I used 3/4-inch OSB and was able to sit on it without the front panel sounding like I was breaking it. The ONLY reason I didn't give this bed a 5-star rating is because of the panels that I think it needed. I wish there was a 4-1/2 star rating. It was no big deal for me, but someone without a garage full of tools may have a more difficult time getting these panels. I opted to install the panels on hinges so I could unfold them easily when I pull out the bed. I know, over kill. LOL. But there is room in the chest to store the panels when the bed is folded. By the way, some of the pre-drilled holes for the handles were just a little off. I drilled a little bigger hole and it took care of the problem. Again, not a problem for me since I have ready access to the tools, but it could be an issue for other people. I was concerned that you could feel where the mattress folded. I haven't slept in the bed, but when I laid down, I really couldn't feel it. The mattress felt really comfortable. All in all, I am delighted with the bed. I have it in my office as my guest bed. Delivery was easy. If you have stairs, I strongly recommend paying the extra few bucks to have the delivery guys take it up the stairs. The bedroom where I have this bed is on the first floor. It would have been very difficult to get these heavy boxes up a set of stairs. Did I say the boxes are heavy? The boxes are heavy!

When ordering something as large as a Murphy bed you should assume it will take a while for you to recieve. It arrived in 4 large boxes and took a couple months to recieve, but well worth the wait! You must be invested to install a murphy bed! The install was cut and dry but very time consuming and you need 2 people for sure! Be prepared to remove floor molding, to drill into studs or concrete if need be. Overall I am very happy with this Murphy Bed unit. It is an attractive piece once installed. This bed has built in lighting and plugs so if you don't want to see the cords coming from the top be prepared to hide the cords (we bought a cord cover in white with self adhesive to stick to the cabinet). The bed mechanism works well and handles our 12 inch memory foam mattress well. Make sure you read the minimum and max weight for your mattress. I would definitly recommend this Murphy bed! LOVE IT!

The bed-in-a-box as I call it, looks great. I was looking for something that could be used as a guest bed and doesn’t take up too much space. It comes in 4 large boxes that are heavy. 2 boxes contain the cabinet wood pieces, 1 contains the mattress, and 1 contains the metal bedding mechanism. There are a lot of pieces, but assembly wasn’t too difficult. A power drilldriver definitely speeds up assembly. Once assembled, the cabinet seems to be pretty sturdy. The bed mechanism opens and closes easily. The memory foam like mattress is comfortable. I took a nap on it to try it out and you can’t feel the bars underneath! The distressed gray color looks good. I put the cabinet in our upstairs game room across from a sofa. I put a 55” television on the top so it has a dual purpose as a tv stand. Overall I really like the bed-in-a-box, I would have given it 5-stars if it was pre assembled. I feel like the price point of the item doesn’t match the amount of assembly required.

I am very happy with this product especially for the price. It's the perfect space saver for a combined office/ guest room. Now a few things to be aware of: the pistons show above the mattress (when the bed is down) but can be hidden with pillows, when the bed is down there is a significant gap between the wall and the top/ head of the mattress, and the assembly takes a while, so be prepared to take your time. Now about assembly, the baseboards must be removed, and the murphy bed must be attached to studs in the wall, as well as the floor. After removing the baseboards, I would suggest painting or otherwise finishing the wall under the baseboard, where the bed will be as you will be able to see this area from the significant gap between the wall and bed. As for assembly, the murphy bed comes with everything you will need, including several drill bits, and a mallet, you just need your own tools for removing and replacing the baseboards. Once finished, the bed is still a little heavy to pull down/ put up, I think most able-bodied people will be able to do it alone though.

Happy with the look for the price. It doesn’t look cheap, but I can also see how the more expensive Murphy beds do look more custom-made than this one. All in all very happy with the end result for the price. I’m really glad that I read the reviews prior to purchasing it that showed some tips about putting it together. Many of the screws come all mixed together in a large bag. Taking the time to separate them and label them in cups was very helpful once we were in the swing of things putting the bed together. My husband assembled it basically himself except for me, helping him hold things occasionally. You will need two people for some of the steps. My husband is very handy and it took him an entire Saturday to complete it. some of the pictures are confusing and strangely drawn, there was one step where he had to go back multiple steps later and change it.

I ordered this bed for my teenage daughter’s room and we are pretty pleased with the choice. Some major things to consider when ordering it are that it will come in four separate boxes and on a pallet. So delivery will be by a freight company. They do not bring it in, only to the door. The boxes are SUPER heavy and will take two people just to move into the house-one at a time. In addition, the build will require a minimum of two people-but three is VERY helpful. Everything was packed very well-and on the outside of the boxes you can see that they did put labels indicating what box number it is, so you can figure out what order to open them in. You will want to start the build with the bed frame and NOT the shelves! The bed will need to be mounted into the wall and also the FLOOR. The shelves come with a mounting kit for the wall as well, though the shelves are heavy enough that we chose not to use them. If you are on a slab foundation be sure you are aware of this and have the correct tools! The instructions can be a big ambiguous, and sometimes it took both my husband and I to figure them out, but they were not impossible to work with. If you have never used power tools or constructed large structures in the past, I would HIGHLY recommend paying to get this built and installed. It took my husband, my daughter and I two days to build it. I would also caution anyone purchasing this to take into consideration ceiling fans or lights when measuring for the bed. We did not think about it and this turned out to be a serious challenge when trying to get the frame of the bed up after it was put together. The third person is needed when installing the metal frame into the wood frame, as you will need someone to sit on the frame to weigh it down while it’s being finished. Lastly, a third person is very helpful when you are stacking the shelves on top of one another too. All that to say, the bed is very sleek looking and seems to be very sturdy. I wish it weren’t laminated wood, but solid wood instead, yet for the price it seems good. I love the shelves that come with it for extra storage and the frame itself seems strong enough to last for many years if cared for properly. The bed is also easy to lift once fully put together and does not require a box spring. My daughter was extremely pleased and excited to have the extra storage and the ability to lift the bed when floor space is needed. Overall I would definitely recommend this bed!

This is a beautiful piece of furniture. Granted, it’s all MDF and therefor less expensive than a wood Murphy bed would be but it still looks really nice. All who have slept on it have said it’s very comfortable and it’s so convenient to have the drawers to store the bedding in. It definitely was a big project to put together. My husband and his dad spent at least 5 hours getting the bed portion assembled and then my husband spent another 3 hours the following day assembling the cabinet on the side. I would definitely suggest having them deliver inside your house rather than leaving it on your doorstep. It’s 7 HUGE and VERY heavy boxes and bringing them inside would have been a job in itself.

This bed is a dream come true. It really opens the room up so much. I'm so so excited to have this! I've included pictures of it along the way. Even though some of the pieces are particle board, the anchoring to the wall is a solid piece of wood. It feels incredibly sturdy and will not come off the wall. Just a note, to pull the bed down off the wall, it is heavy. Straps to secure the mattress to the metal frame are not included, but I recommend having them so the mattress doesn't get stuck in the wall box and then flop onto the metal frame when you pull it down. I bought some backpack-like straps for ~10 USD. It took me and my husband about two half days to put this together. It wasn't difficult, but there are a lot of pieces, make sure you pay attention to which screws and whatnot are being used.

The Murphy bed is very well made and very nice looking. It looks great and the sofa is very comfortable. The description says 10 inch mattress. We bought a 10 inch mattress but it had a topper on it and that makes the mattress to thick to have to unit close flush. The legs for the couch were missing. I called customer service and they put a order in for the legs right away. Customer service representative have been great!! The unit was delivered June 16,2022 the legs are on back order and to ship on July 12th now it’s moved to July 29th. Hoping there won’t be anymore delays. One thing to know is when I order this bed I was given a few options No charge for outside drop off or just inside the house. If you want it in a specific room they will charge 19.00 When it arrived the delivery guy wanted to leave it in the driveway. My husband told him it was to come inside the front door. The guy told him there would be a charge. We told him we would call Wayfair because that’s not what we were told and there was no way my husband could move this buy himself. The guys says ok we will bring it in. I believe they just didn’t want to bring it in the house. So make sure if you order this bed that if you want it brought inside your house that it happens. It is a solid and heavy Murphy bed. It looks beautiful once it's installed. BUT it was very difficult to put together. I am a petite slim woman and my husband had to help me. We both struggled to put up the two front panels. One panel was damaged during delivery but Wayfair gave a discount as the damage is quite visible. We will try to use paste and paint to cover it. Also the bed came without the legs and the metal pieces in front of them. The box had been clearly tampered with and then taped the box back after taken the items out. I called the company (Bestar) directly and they sent the missing pieces. I received them almost a week later. Would I recommend it? Yes, but I would pay to have it assembled unless you have strong husbands/sons/friends that are able to assemble it for you. We're still trying to finish the assembly and the foam mattress we just received is already expanding on the half finished bed.

Took me about 5 hours to install, mostly because it's heavy and I lacked the space to accomodate all the parts before the assembly. (I am not a handyman, if you have experience it will take you about 2-3 hours I think). Instructions were clear, but you will need 2 persons to install it. The bed is confortable, and the sofa is also great. Easy to arm/disarm once installed, no need to force anything, even en elder person with reduced mobility was able to do it.

We purchased this murphy bed in order to remove our original guest bed and free some space for my computer desk (i work from home). Delivery promess was respected, installation is long but not complicated: the assembly instructions are clear and easy to follow. The folding mechanism has a 2-point anchoring system (bottom of the wall + floor). Compared to other brands which only attach to the wall, it feels way more secure and does not move from the wall when we open / close the bed. We're very pleased with the design and how it turned out !

The bed fits its role in our smallish guest bedroom, doubling as an office for my wife. It has an attractive appearance, and will store quite a lot of her papers and files. The quality of the drawers is not what I expected, but they will do. I shortened one of them so we could access the electrical outlet behind it and realized the particleboard was brittle and fragile. I would caution someone to make sure they don't try to load the drawers with too much as the bottom will likely pull out of the groove holding it into the drawer sides. It is a stiff piece of plastic, but thin and flexible. The bedframe is awesome and once secured to the wall, it might be last thing standing if/when an earthquake hits our locale. The lights are a very nice touch (no pun intended), plus you can dim them. The directions were very well written for the entire project. Like many folks before me mentioned, it takes some time to get this built and secured to the wall, so just go slow. The final adjustments for the cupboard doors worked very well and I'm very happy with how the entire bed came together. My estimate of how long it took to put it all together ... maybe 15-16 hours. One of the plastic sleeves holding the bed slats to the frame was broken upon delivery ... forklift casualty? Anyway, Bestar sent me not one, but four replacements within a week. Great service.

It looks great and the lights make it seem like a luxury item. My first and only guest so far has said it's very comfortable. The desk is great and I love all the storage. Handle was missing and Bestar shipped it immediately and it arrived swiftly. Only reasons I gave it 4 stars are 1) it took semi-pro assemblers 8 hours to build and 2) the bed doesn't stay flat on the floor -- the hydraulic pulls must be too strong/tight so the bed stays angled in the air when you pull it down. I had to buy 16lb in weights to put at the end of the bed so it stays down.

The Best of Both Worlds!!! Just moved into a 2 Bedroom Apartment a year ago and have always wanted a Murphy Bed! Turns out as I was figuring out with room of the two I wanted to be my main bedroom, I went with smaller room for many different reasons and needs!? Long story short, when I came across this particular Murphy Bed + Desk Model, I knew this was the one I wanted, period!!! I'm an Artist / Furniture Designer+Customer Builder / Interior designer on my spare time, and have always enjoyed putting things as long as I can remember. Now I will say that it's recommends to assemble, you should have 2 people in total for everything to come together. Well, I'm happy and proud to say that it can be done with "One Person" and a lot of time on hand, if possible!?! Now I will confess that never having put together a murphy bed together before and look forward to new learning challenges! This was with out a doubt, the "Hardest-Piece" of Furniture I've have ever assembled at this point in my life. I work a Full-Time Job and this took a total of "5 Days" to complete when it was all said & done! Now I have a working Office / Queen-Size bedroom and it's awesome!!! Luckily, this color combo had already match most of my bedroom / dresser / painted-room color scheme (Mid-Tint Gray) it was the perfect fit!!! Mounting to the support-studs was a challenge, but Very Necessary. The few things that could be improved on are: The Manual (still have a bag of finish caps that still need to be put in cause no clue where they all should go) a little more detail towards the end of the project, Must have a mattress that's 10 inches thick or more & should be stated of consumers, & last, the led lights for the price should incorporate 2 light switches (1 on each side of the bed) and not just one. Still, I'm very Happy with my purchase and investment with this model! A Year Later, and it's holding up & functioning Beautifully!!! Looking forward with the "Dual-Functioning Features" this set up will provide for many years to come!!

I love this bed in my guest room. When not in use it is out of the way and I can use my spare room for other things. Mine did not come with any straps or whatever to keep the mattress attached to the frame so when bringing it down the mattress suddenly flops down. That is the reason I didn’t give it 5 stars. I will have to figure something out to hold the foot of the mattress to the frame when folding/unfolding the bed. Instructions were difficult to follow/understand. It took 2 of my sons 5 hours to assemble it. Love the lights.
