How do I dispose of my old furniture? Do I have to call a private service to get rid of my old mattress? How much does it cost to drop off my box spring at my town's landfill? And where can I go to find information about my city's Waste Management services anyway? These are probably the questions you're asking yourself when you've got some bulk items you're trying to dispose of. And with the influx of information floating around the internet about how to 'properly' dispose of your furniture, we know how tempting it can be to procrastinate on removing your junk, ultimately turning your basement into the graveyard of all your old rubbish. This is where our furniture disposal guide comes in—it's here to help answer your questions by providing you with an exclusive resource to your state and city's Waste Management services.

Using the Wayfair furniture disposal guide is simple; just search for your city and you'll be brought to your city's disposal page. Once you're on this page, you'll be provided with information on the process and regulations for disposing sofas, mattresses, box springs, and other bulk items in your city. All cities will provide 1 of 3 methods for removing your furniture; normal pickup, special pickup, or drop off.

  • Cities that provide normal pickup will simply have you place your items onto the curb and your weekly trash collectors will come by to scoop it up.
  • If your city requires a special pickup of these bulk items, then you must call your local DPW (Department of Public Works) office or Waste Management office, and schedule a pickup.
  • If pickup is unavailable in your town, then a local landfill site location will be provided where you can drop off your old furniture.

Wondering about the fees for any of these services? Don't worry—we won't leave you in the dark about that important information either. We'll provide as much information as we can so you know what your next steps are to having a junk-free home.

In addition to the essential junk removal facts, we provide you with the contact information of important offices in your town. This includes phone numbers, e-mail addresses, hours of operation and the official .gov or .org website of your town's Waste Management program. And for those who wish to donate their gently used furniture, mattress, or box spring, a list of donation locations in your city is available as well.

We hope our furniture disposal guide takes some of the burden out of researching your town's Waste Management and makes bulk item removal in your city a lot less confusing.
