Job Description

Candidates for this position are preferred to be based in Bangalore, India and will be expected to comply with their team's hybrid work schedule requirements.

Who We Are:

Wayfair's Customer Technology organization builds the digital experiences and platforms that help customers move seamlessly from discovery to purchase and beyond. We're looking for a passionate Senior Engineering Manager to lead teams building reliable, scalable customer-facing technology for customers across multiple geographies.

Our platforms support key moments on Wayfair's websites and apps, from browsing products and evaluating delivery options to completing checkout and managing orders. Payments is a critical part of this experience. Our teams make it easy and reliable for customers to pay using the methods available in their geography, while meeting local compliance and regulatory requirements. Supporting different payment methods, rules, and customer expectations across markets brings significant technical and operational complexity.

We work across engineering, product, design, and partner teams to make complex systems feel simple for customers. Our platforms must respond quickly, handle high volumes, and remain resilient as customer needs and business priorities evolve. Every interaction is an opportunity to build trust, reduce friction, and deliver a better experience.

What You'll Do

Help shape and drive a multi-year technology strategy for a complex platform that supports customers across multiple geographies.

Lead one or more software engineering teams, designing scalable solutions and owning the full software development lifecycle—from design and delivery to ongoing operation and maintenance.

Manage and develop engineers through regular coaching, guidance, and mentorship, supporting both their day-to-day work and long-term career growth.

Attract, onboard, develop, and retain diverse talent while building an inclusive, collaborative team culture.

Lead by example and help raise the bar for technical quality, operational excellence, and system design across your team and the broader engineering organization.

Identify and drive improvements to engineering skills, standards, practices, architecture, and documentation.

Facilitate technical discussions and decisions, helping teams weigh trade-offs and align on effective solutions.

Integrate AI into team management and engineering workflows, helping the team adopt AI tools and practices to improve how we plan, build, test, and operate software.

Continuously challenge established approaches and look for ways to improve our technology, practices, and outcomes.

What You'll Need

A results-oriented, collaborative, pragmatic mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Hands-on experience driving release engineering in a high-growth environment; prior platform experience is required.

A good understanding of modern deployment methodologies, including progressive delivery and blue-green deployments.

Experience working with containers, container orchestration, and deployment automation.

12+ years of engineering experience, including at least 3–5 years leading high-performing teams.

Experience making architectural and design decisions for large-scale platforms, with an understanding of trade-offs between time to market and flexibility.

Significant experience managing people and supporting their growth and performance.

Experience designing and building scalable, general-purpose products with an outstanding user experience.

Experience hiring and developing engineering teams and culture, and leading cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, agile environment.

The ability to communicate and collaborate across the organization, influence decisions with and without direct authority, and communicate inclusively and persuasively.

Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to balance technical and business requirements.

Payments experience is preferred.
