Job Description
About the Role
The Physical Retail team at Wayfair sits at the intersection of our digital platform and the in-person shopping experience. As Associate Director, Retail (Store) Marketing, you will set the direction for how Wayfair builds awareness, drives traffic, and grows its physical retail presence.
Reporting to the Head of Brand Marketing, you will translate broader company and organization priorities into objectives for retail marketing, then deliver those outcomes through your team and cross-functional partners. You will lead the strategy across the full customer journey from new store openings and ongoing traffic to the in-store experience and how it’s translated across our digital ecosystem and establish how success is measured. The work will involve evolving business challenges and coordination across teams, functions, and senior stakeholders. You will bring clarity to the priorities, plans, and capabilities needed to grow this channel.
Key Responsibilities
- Set direction and deliver outcomes: Translate broader, including multi-year, business priorities into annual retail marketing objectives. Align team plans as priorities shift and remain accountable for results delivered through your team and partners.
- Own the retail marketing strategy: Set the Retail marketing strategy and Wayfair Retail experiential strategy, connecting awareness, traffic, customer experience, and business performance.
- Define success and operating standards: Establish outcome measures, quality standards, decision criteria, and accountability for retail marketing work so teams can make sound decisions and deliver consistently.
- Build scalable launch and sustain models: Own the “New Store Opening” playbook and ongoing support model. Identify what needs to scale across stores and markets, and evolve the approach based on results and changing business needs.
- Drive cross-functional alignment: Align teams and senior stakeholders across Marketing, Merchandising, Store Operations, Creative, and other relevant functions on priorities, dependencies, risks, and expected outcomes.
- Guide testing and channel investment: Set the testing and optimization agenda for physical retail, use evidence to guide investment and budget tradeoffs, and scale approaches that improve performance.
- Build team capability and structure: Lead and develop the retail marketing team and the broader work around it. Shape the capabilities, roles, and ways of working needed to deliver the team’s objectives. The role may lead multiple teams or a single team with comparable breadth and impact.
Qualifications
- Significant experience in retail marketing, integrated brand marketing, omnichannel marketing, or a related field, with a track record of setting strategy and delivering results through teams and cross-functional partners.
- Experience leading complex work with evolving scope, aligning multiple functions, and influencing senior or executive stakeholders.
- Strong business judgment and analytical skills; able to define success measures, evaluate investment tradeoffs, and adjust plans as priorities or evidence change.
- Ability to turn a brand strategy into effective customer experiences across physical and digital channels.
- Experience building team capabilities, setting clear expectations, and supporting development across a team or broader organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Physical retail new store opening or fleet expansion experience is highly preferred.
- 12+ Years of experience.
