Nice combo washer/dryer, fits under kitchen counter. I had the older model for over 10yrs and this new model is even better - better digital display, quieter. Delivery was excellent - they emailed me ahead of time and called 1/2 hr before arrival.

We travel extensively and rent condos, most of which have one brand or another of a stackable washer dryer. The most common complaint on all of those was that they were noisy, so when buying one for our home, a quiet unit was our first search key. After that I reviewed comments from owners of these type units. I started with the lowest ratings and found many common themes among those who didn't like them. The same can be said for the top ratings and common themes from those owners. Overall, many of the low ratings had more to do with the local retailer, delivery/setup, and slow service complaints on the units that had out-of-the-box failures and what turned out to be improper operating by new owners. After much research, I settled on this unit. Have had it a couple months now and can say I'm completely satisifed. Our dishwasher is rated at 43 sones and the bathroom exhaust fan rated at 60 sones. This stackable has a sound level somewhere between those two. Closing the door to the room where it is located is all it takes to get nearly unnoticable noise levels. It is not soundless, and by just focusing for its running noises, it is easy to tell when either the washer or the dryer cycle has completed. The self-balancing feature has engaged only a couple times, and it works beautifully. The location of the electro-mechanical controls at the midpoint between the two units makes them easily accessable. The wide variety of selectable cycles and features meets the needs of the gambit of loads. I like the fact that the controls are not electronic, but mechanical. Eliminates the possible failure and cost of a combined electronic touch panel. The unit does have onboard diagnostic routines however that will greatle aid in any future troubleshooting. The dryer dries quickly. Overall there is a solid construction. I noted that the dryer door is much more substantial than most units I've previously used. The space above the washer door is adequate for filling and removing articles from the washer. Although the very top panel of the unit appears to have been damaged in shipment because of the way it is bulged out, this is actually the design to make room for the dryer tub. Not noticable unless you stand behind the unit which is usually against the wall. There were some reviews that mentioned eventual failure of the spline/clutch (affectionately called splutch), but that would make sense since this is the main mechanical operating link between washer cycles. Review of repair procedures for that looks like something I can do myself if it ever becomes necessary. All in all, very happy with the quality, performance, and price. Would buy again.

I loved that the unit featured full size drums in both the washer and dryer, the fact it was a spacesaver with the stacked configuration and the simple control panel with no digital junk to go bad. I had the front loader washer and dryer for years and hated the fact I had to get down on my knees to access the doors. The front loader also hold bacteria and you have to treat them once in a while to keep the smell out of your laundry. Very bad design. With this unit, I can stand and do laundry. The other front load style, you have to get in your knees to empty on or the other. This unit is one of the few that still has the center agitator in the washer tub. That allows for a better scrub and cleaner laundry. I absolutely love this unit. The only thing is that because of the thinner profile, there is not a thick layer of sound insulation inside like the fancy models, so the washer is louder than some. The dryer is quiet. I am happy with my purchase and to have this style of washer/dryer again.

This is a good washer, and basically the only one that would fit my 26" space. (One more inch and I could have gotten a 27" model!) I've had it a week now, and have done half a dozen washes. During the agitation cycle very early in the washer's run (right after the washer drum fills with water), it makes this fairly loud grinding noise - back and forth, back and forth. I've never heard any washer make that sound, ever. Fortunately, this is a normal sound that the washer is supposed to make. How do I know this is normal? This website has a page where you can listen to the various sounds that the washer is supposed to make. There is a QR code to scan in with the registration/owner's manual that takes you right to that page. And yup, it sounds just like the video they've posted. I was relieved to find out that there was nothing wrong with my washer. Unfortunately, this grinding sound is very jarring. Other agitation cycles I've heard during my entire life sound a lot smoother than this so that they just become sort of background noise, white noise. When the washer starts it's agitation cycle, you definitely know it. What is interesting is that GE was so aware of this being a weird sound that they put it on their webpage . . . instead of working on a solution to make the sound less annoying. This stacked unit is a replacement for an older GE stacked unit I had; about 15-20 years old, I would think. The washer failed - it wouldn't drain, and repairs would have cost about 25% of the cost of getting a new one, so it was time. What I also find It interesting is that my older GE stacked unit didn't make this annoying agitation noise. The dryer works just fine. One nice improvement they've made from my older unit to this one is that they've increased the amount of drying time. My old one would only dry for 50 minutes, which was never enough. The new one can be set for up to 90 minutes, which is enough. Also, the old one made this very loud and annoying mechanical buzz - EHNNNNNNNNNT - when it was done. This one doesn't make any noise when it's complete. This annoying agitation cycle grinding is the only reason I have dinged my rating from 5 stars down to 4. If you're going to place your washer/dryer in a location where you can't hear it, this is not a problem at all, and I would rate the W/D the full 5 stars. The "writing a review guidelines" say I shouldn't mention store names or cost. Staying within those guidelines, I'll simply say that this product is available online for significantly less than the amount shown at this GE website.
