About the Designer
Aino Aalto Finland (1894 - 1949)
It seems no coincidence that Aalto means wave in Finnish. Aino Aalto (1894-1949) also caused waves with her glassware collection that beat her husband's entry in an iittala-Karhula design competition in Finland and went on to win the gold prize at the Milan Triennale in 1936. In the 1930's there were a lot of cheerfully useless objects floating around. Dinner services were vast and ornate, and kept in cupboards most of the year. Aino Aalto's radically simple design seemed as if it had arrived from the future. Not only did she use glass, but she also cleverly maximized the advantages of pressed-glass mass production techniques to create decoration out of the form and the material. An eloquent thought that explained how a more human and harmonious form of mass production could make design masterpieces available for everyone. In addition to the standard Aino Aalto colors, each year iittala chooses two additional colors for limited production, allowing for added accent pieces and combinability.

Aino Aalto Glasses
Cathy from White Plains, NY– Verified Buyer
I absolutely adore these glasses. They are crystal clear, and sparkle!. You'll never drop another glass, as the ridges built into the design make these glasses grip-proof. Even my young Grandsons have no problem holding them. No need to put out ugly plastic glasses for them since I bought these.

I like this size for drinking water. I ordered the pitcher too from the same brand.

Love these glasses. They are sturdy, fit well in the hand, and they are a good size for kids and adults. Big plus. They stack. And the glass is so clear. Not cloudy after washing like so many others. I wish they made a bigger version in this same style.

Perfect for smaller drinks. Really holds about 10 .5 oz, unless you fill it totally full to the brim. Pretty and well made. Perfect for our needs.
My absolute favorite everyday glass!
CathyG from Santa Fe, NM– Verified Buyer
I have used both the tumbler and corresponding juice glasses as everyday glass for a busy house with two teenagers and their associated friends for the past six or so years. The glass is stylish, durable and flexible. During the time I have used them, I have had a few chips on the rim from careless dishwasher loading or just outright dropped them, but I absolutely would not replace them with anything else!
beautiful, but not 11.75 oz
JR from New York, NY
love the glasses but wish they really held 11.75oz.
