Spirited and bold, this all-American color scheme sings out that summer is still here, even if Labor Day is our ceremonious surrender to fall. Join in with your own chorus of patriotic hues, and if you’re feeling really adventurous, try mixing in aquas and teals to blend your blues.

What better place to start than outside where everyone can get a glimpse of your red, white, and blue scheme? An outdoor porch or patio stands up to a mix of stripes and plaid.

Carry the colors inside, too. You don’t need to go overboard with Americana or flags. The color combination is strong enough to carry the message on its own.

Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and scale, but remember that the red will pop out, while blue will recede. Use less red than blue to create balance. For more examples of how to create a harmonious scheme with these colors, see my board Red, White & Blue | Sensational Interiors.

If you have a home with a water view let that stand in for the blue in your decorating scheme. White and touches of red are all you’ll need against your ocean blue view.

Adding your boldest hue to an accent wall can highlight the wall with the most-interesting features or that you want to draw attention to.

Classic ticking adds to the charm of this red, white and chambray blue bedroom. The lighter blue keeps the room feminine and airy.

How will you be singing the red, white, blues this Labor Day? Tried and true or bit off beat?
