Hi again! I’m Kirsten Grove of Simply Grove – you may remember me from the last time I posted at My Way Home I’m back again to talk lighting! When it comes to choosing the perfect lighting for your home, some people choose to throw in the towel before they even begin the process.  It can be an overwhelming task but it’s so worth it when you have found that perfect light.  And when I say worth it, I mean you will be doing the victory dance and pouring yourself a glass of bubbly to celebrate.

The hardest room to work with is the living room.  Most living rooms are the largest space in someone’s home and with more space means more lighting.  Here are a few tips, tricks and suggestions to help you decide on the perfect lighting.

A set of matching floor lamps on either side of a large sofa creates soft reading light and a perfect glow for entertaining.  If you are not a classic matchy fan, as long as the lamps are the same height, you can choose an eclectic set of un-matching lamps.

An easy yet classic option for great overall lighting is an oversized drum shade pendant light.  You can find them in a variety of colors and textures as well as different sizes.  They can be placed in a modern home or a more traditional home.

Industrial lighting is not a thing of the past.  It’s the perfect look that meshes well with all types of styles.  And industrial light can give off some of the best light and look.

Using playful lighting in a minimilist space will showcase that specific light.  If pairing it with lamps, keep the lamps and shades very simple.  You don’t want too much going on at once.

Desk lamps aren’t necessarily just for desks.  They make for great reading lights and nice ambient lights.  Display them a little higher than your seating for perfect practical lighting.
