Hi, y’all!

I’m Rhoda from Atlanta, GA and I’m so excited to be guest posting at My Way Home.  I happen to be somewhat of a decorating-addicted girl, one who can’t get enough of home inspiration and spend most of my waking moments thinking about the house I’m currently renovating.  You can keep up with my renovations over at my blog Southern Hospitality. Making a house a home has been one of those driving forces within me for as long as I can remember.  All the way back to when I got my first house in the 80’s.  I haven’t stopped thinking about it yet and I love creating a beautiful room.  I just can’t live with ugly, can you?

I’ve been blogging for 5 years now and it has turned into my full time dream job.  Pinch me!  Nothing is more fun than to talk about decorating and to actually get something accomplished in creating that inspiring space that we all want to enjoy and live in.  My own personal journey is making my way home again.

In fact, home décor is even more important to me now as I will soon be moving into a 1979 fixer-upper that I’m renovating with the help of my awesome dad. I grew up in the Atlanta area, but I lived in Birmingham for 5 years and had a really pretty house over there that I enjoyed fixing up. There wasn’t anything wrong with it per se, it was a 1998 traditional brick, but I had lots of fun putting my stamp on it. My old dining room was a nice traditional space mixed with pretty antiques that I have collected over the years and I enjoyed bringing it to life with my yardsale/thriftstore collection of white dishes. Those are all packed in boxes waiting to be brought out again.

My old living room in Birmingham was mostly traditional as well and I enjoyed putting together this gallery wall, using yardsale and thrifted pieces.  I love how well old vintage pieces mix with new items. In fact, collecting old things is one of my favorite things to do.  All rooms need a mix of vintage and new to make them interesting!

Now that I’m single again, the fixer-upper will definitely be one that I can pour my heart into and make it just the way I want it. That’s going to be fun! I’m already having fun picking out paint colors and dreaming about beautiful hardwood floors that will be installed very soon.  We took out all the nasty carpet in this house, as well as the roach-infested old kitchen cabinets and soon, I’ll have a fresh space to move into.

Here’s a peek of my new dining room with tall board and batten, looking into the new living room. It’s just been painted with a fresh coat of creamy white and wow, did that make a change in this house. My new house is going to be very light and bright and I can’t wait to add some color with fresh fabrics and accessories. Fabrics are so much fun to play with and are one of the easiest ways to update a home and freshen up your interiors. There are some exciting fabrics out there right now!

This 1979 fixer-upper is starting to come to life. In the next couple of weeks, hardwood floors will be installed and that’s going to really take this house up to the next level. I’m so excited, I just want to jump for joy and can’t wait to get those boxes unpacked that are sitting in storage. I hope to move in by fall, well before Thanksgiving. That’s my plan, at least.

I would love for you to follow my renovation journey and watch this house turn into a beautiful home. Accessorizing will be the icing on the cake and that’s the fun part for me.  All those details make the difference in bringing a room to life and I can hardly wait for that part!

I carry my camera around with me most of the time and love documenting beautiful images to share with my blog readers. We are all on that journey towards home and I so enjoy sharing ideas and inspiration with all of you. Thanks for letting me drop by today to share a glimpse of my life with you at My Way Home.
