Hi there, I’m Amanda Bowe from Our Humble A{Bowe}d, where we share our projects, big or small, functional or decorative, good or bad. Recently, my husband, Ben, and I sold our finished first house for a larger fixer upper. We’ve got ten or so projects currently in the works, including gutting and remodeling a bathroom. We started with a functioning, but not functional for our needs bathroom. Here are a couple useful tips we learned during our process.

Know Who You’re Designing For.
Our two little boys love to take baths, but most of our guests take showers, so we needed to accommodate both groups. Once we decided that, Ben got out a pry bar and started tearing out the old finishes.

Be Flexible, But Go In With A Plan.
Originally, I thought we’d have a dark greenish blue vanity, glass pendants, and blue or yellow accents. Then I saw a coral utensil caddy and remembered I had a navy shower curtain and my plans changed. Mood boards always help me visualize how the elements of a room will work together.

Make It Easy To Change Up A Look.
Industrial elements are on trend right now, and we’re happy to add a few touches to our home. The harder it is to change or replace an item, the more neutral I stay. Then add pops of color and pattern through accessories. Down the road, if you’re bored, swap a few accessories for a new look, with minimal effort and money spent. These basics are a great starting point for any bathroom remodel.
