A few years ago Stephen Drucker, former Editor-In-Chief at House Beautiful said to me, “The only time we comfortably use the word ‘pastels’ to describe colors is when weʼre talking about the 1950s”. At the time he was absolutely right, but not any more. Light, dreamy, feminine colors are back and on trend for spring 2012. So get comfortable describing colors as pastels.

These tender tints are cropping up just about everywhere. But, of all of the pastels, mint green is the one you’ll be seeing most often. This is a color that is deliciously serene on the surface yet as refreshing as the taste of spearmint.

“This frosty tint is a yummy mix between blue and green and has light and soft flavor. We love mint paired with metal tones of gold, silver, and bronze as well as with other pastels. And don’t forget the most famous duo of mint and chocolate chip. Delicious Mint is a perfect sundae of casual modern and subdued elegance, so fun, you can skip the cherry on top,” says Stacy Garcia, CEO of Stacy Garcia, Inc., a leader in the hospitality design industry.

With white and light washed woods, mint green has a relaxed feeling of vacationing in a lovely waterfront cottage year round.

Mint is a timeless hue for the home that works beautifully with many colors. For a more classic look, combine with rich tan, chocolate brown, or antique gold.

Donʼt limit your thinking to cool or classic schemes. For example, as a ground for red, black, white, and tan, mint green evokes a sense of the unexpected.

Other colors to consider for uncommon combinations with mint green: olive green, oranges, sky blue or even navy blue, gray, or rosy pink. Mixing it up makes your room more interesting to the eye and is a great way to reflect your unique style.

Now is the time to get creative with mint green. Stacy Garcia has shared 3 Tasty Tips to try with Delicious Mint and Iʼve put lots of images on a Pinterest board to inspire you.
