Hello! My name is Erika Johnson and I write a lifestyle blog called Radiant Republic. I’ve lived in cities all over the country (including Dallas, Seattle and Nashville), but have settled right back where I was born—Boston. Actually, I live in an historic captain’s house in a charming New England town on the city’s outskirt. Since closing the door to my beloved city apartment just more than one year ago, I’ve fallen head over heels in love with life in a coastal town. My fiancé and I have designed our space to be a true reflection of us, although it remains a work in progress. This year will be particularly exciting as we continue to integrate our style into our upcoming Cape Cod wedding!

Although I am not a formally trained interior designer, I’ve always been enamored with the design process. I live for unexpected combinations of colors and textures, but my favorite juxtaposition is a preppy stripe crossed with a loose, Bohemian room. Stripes make me nostalgic for my New England roots, while eclectic vignettes of storied treasures speak to my time spent in other parts of the country—and traveling to other parts of the world.

I love this eclectic, Bohemian-style room. It’s the perfect blend of mixed patterns and storied treasures.  I’ve recreated the look below, adding a stripe to the bedding. What do you think?

The secret to creating a true Bohemian space is to curate a spectacular collection of bold furnishings that look like they’ve been gathered over a lifetime. Bohemian style is unconventional with its mismatched colors and textiles, while a sleek stripe indicates total sophistication. I’m so happy to be part of the Wayfair family and look forward to interacting with each of you!  In the meantime, you can read about some of my travel must-haves and favorite mirrors.  Until next time! -Erika

You say you haven’t had a formal education in interior design. Well, your inherent ability to create design is what makes you a winner. No formal training could teach the innate gift that you have been given. Thank you for sharing this !
