From ski trips out west to an upcoming European excursion, the new year brings a calendar filled with travel. I welcome it all with open arms and hope to cross more faraway destinations off this year’s bucket list. I have mastered the art of sleeping at mile-high altitudes and have perfected my list of go-to travel necessities.
When away from home for an extended period, I travel with a few items in tow that make me feel at ease in any environment.

A battery-powered clock radio keeps me punctual while a built-in iPod docking station lets me unwind to my favorite playlists in any hotel room. It’s amazing how relaxing familiar music can be in an unfamiliar city.
I’m not kind to my luggage during travel and need a suitcase (or two) that can survive. During a recent train ride to Manhattan, my nylon suitcase literally burst at the seams, leaving its contents scattered around Penn Station. Can you imagine?! Since my embarrassing mishap, I’ve turned to hard-shell luggage pieces and never looked back. The hard cases wear like iron and protect their precious innards without sacrificing style.
When traveling by air, comfort is my first priority. I never set foot on a plane without a cozy throw. I recently slept from wheels up to landing on a cross-country flight and fully credit my peaceful slumber to my blanket. I’ve even used it as a wrap when traveling from warm to cold climates!
When away from home for days on end, I carry a photo of my fiancé and our cats, Boo and Scout. You’re allowed to laugh about that one, but it makes me feel a bit more at home when thousands of miles away. For travel, I need a compact frame that will survive in a suitcase.

Would love to go back to the Alps in Austria and Switzerland!
Hi Erica, I found my way over here from Bower Power and look forward to your writing. And I hope I do not sound like a total Internet creep LOL! but your profile picture is gorgeous!
Ok, I’m dying to see Hawaii. Sounds totally generic but it’s #1 on the bucket list!
