"Hello Edward, spikes at the bottom of the stand could be used if the stand is being put on a carpet. They are removable, if you would like to put the stand on a surface that may scratch, so this would definitely be a good fit."

The top plate is 8.5" x 8.5"; the spikes at the bottom of the stand could be used if the stand is being put on a carpet- they ARE removable if the customer would like put the stand on a surface that may scratch; the weight capacity 50lbs. We don't carry the Focal CMS50, so I hope that the information I have provided you can help you make a more informed decision."

Also, most center channel stands I researched had more lift than the Ebony FGH Series 8" stands. These are very handy if you don't need to raise your speaker too high to fit under your TV.. While putting them together some of the wood started to flake off (about the thickness of a toothpick) exposing the natural wood color underneath. It was very minor. They were easy to assemble and they did the job perfectly. There is an improvement in the sound quality of my speakers. As an added bonus they look good as well, with the grain of the wood in the stands matching the wood grain on my speakers. Was this helpful? Yes / No

Even with 1.5in speaker spikes( I installed my self), they are quit stable. The stands are made of hard wood and have a nice gloss black finish. Easy to assemble. If you are looking for a good deal on quality speaker stands you won`t be sorry with Wood Tech FGH Series. Service Review I received the speaker stands on time and in perfect condition!
