Even though he had little money and very few tools, his enthusiasm, frontier spirit and the support of his family convinced him that he could be successful. Negotiating a long term lease for 80 uncleared acres at $1.00 an acre, he began the task of clearing the land and putting in crops.
Willis hoped that he could support his family by planting a large vegetable garden, milking cows, and raising potatoes on the rest of the land. With the help of his wife, son, and four daughters he cleared the land. Crops were planted and he began the tedious task of weeding and watering the crops until harvest.
With his rudimentary tools, it seemed like he and his family were toiling from sun-up to sun-down just keeping the weeds from taking over his garden and crops.
Desperate to make the work easier for his wife and daughters, Willis took an old saw blade and created a uniquely-shaped tool that could be used by his family to weed the garden more quickly. To cut down on back strain, he added a long handle so that weeding could be done without stooping over. Willis had made the world's first Winged Weeder!®
Fisher Industries, Inc. carries on the tradition started by Willis and continues to provide the Winged Weeder® and other time-saving, easy-to-use gardening tools for today's busy gardener.
The company has grown as gardening has changed. While you may not be plowing 80 uncleared acres, you will find a product to fit your gardening needs.
The Winged Weeder® now comes in a variety of sizes for different types of uses. The Aqua Dome allows for an extended gardening season.
Fisher Industries, Inc. is still committed to creating quality tools at a reasonable price. Some things will never change.

Purchased for my husband to weed while standing, it's plenty long to do that, even with his 6'4" frame. It has a strong, solid handle and a sharp, well-honed metal "push-pull" tool on the end, but it's not heavy and it fits into the smaller spaces between the plants and bushes. A good choice for those who don't want to spend all their time bending while weeding.

Fabulous! The best gardening tool ever! It has cut my weeding time by two thirds.
My go to garden tool

The Winged Weeder is my go to garden tool. I use it for weeding, planting, fluffing soil and it is wonderful to get the grass away from the metal edging around my beds. It goes underneath bushes with ease. I've been using these for about twenty years and finally my old one broke. I have both the large and small sizes which really adds versatility.

the design is not effective, head is not sharp and long enough, so very hard to dig the root out of the ground, just cut the leaves of dandelions are waste of time and efforts. I still like to use my shovel better.

This garden tool is perfect for weeding small weeds as well as getting into cracks and around plants with ease. I've used it in my landscape business for years and my employees love it so much they wanted their own so I got them each one.
Metal Handle is a bummer.
Thomas Clark from Opp, AL– Verified Buyer
It has a metal handle that is too slick and gets too hot in the Southern sun. I thought that I was ordering a wooden handled weeder but it came with a metal handle.
