Nothing to stop ice from eventually melting, but thick walls eliminate condensation (sweating). When I saw it at Wayfair at this great price I immediately bought it. It almost looks a Baccrat piece of crystal . I love justr looking at it and so far have only used it as a piece of art displayed on my kitchen counter. Over the holidays I guess that I will fill it with ice and use it for its intended use.
