We bought this loft bed & desk combination for our 14-year old daughter. Her room is small with a high ceiling, so we wanted a combo desk/bed to maximize space. The bed is very sturdy wood -- not oak, as the title implies, but probably a hard parawood. It is very solid and sturdy. The bolts & hardware are good quality. Assembly is long but not too complicated if you are organized and can read directions well. (Plan to take your time, especially if you have not assembled furniture before. And give yourself space to assemble it in.) Every part fit together perfectly for me. The furniture is handsome and sturdy, and it should serve our daughter well. We are happy with the purchase.

The bed is very heavy, but it comes in three separate packages. Two moderately strong people can probably transport it from the delivery truck. Otherwise I would recommend paying the fee to have the deliverers move the packages close to the assembly site where the packages can be opened and individual pieces moved. Keep track of everything!

The bed and desk seem to be of high quality. My 12-year-old son loves it. He has a small room which is why we got the loft and now his room looks great, has a more spacious feel. My husband didn't have much trouble putting it together. It shipped out pretty promptly which was nice. We're very satisfied with it.

The delivery was NOT prompt. In fact the process was extremely frustrating. The Bunk Bed left Newark, CA on July 6th, 2011 and arrived at Alero in Mississauga, ON on July 22nd, about an hour's drive from our home. So far, so good !!! At that time, we expected Alero to call us to make arrangements for the delivery...as per "Delivery Notes Once your order is near, a rep from the shipping company will call and give you a 4 hour window to arrange for delivery." We waited and waited for that call which never came. We called customer service at Home Direct and they said they would contact Alero and make sure that they would contact us. No luck there! Finally, we spoke with Conor at Customer Service, CSN Bunk Beds. He was very helpful and tracked the shipment and then he gave us Alero's telephone number and advised us to call Alero ourselves. Which we did and the bunk bed was delivered in good condition within 2 days of our call on August 10th. 42 days after we ordered it on June 29th. I do wish I had had the forsight to "goggle" Alero myself to get their phone number to call them directly instead of going thru the process which I did. I was totally out of the loop on this, feeling that my only recourse was to work with customer service. However I feel that the delivery note: " Once your order is near, a rep from the shipping company will call and give you a 4 hour window to arrange for delivery." influenced my decision !!! And also feel that there was a lack of communication between Home Direct delivery service and Alero !!

Very well made..my daughter loves it so much desk space. The price [...] made it worth every penny! Highly reccommend it your kid will love it!

Our 8 year old son loves this bed and desk. He was so excited to sleep in it and put together his desk. Our older boy thought it was awesome. He would of liked one for himself. It is so much better then you can imagine. Very happy so far!

My 8-year old son and I spent several hours one Saturday building this great new loft bed. We did a few things wrong at first so maybe it would have taken less time if not. I recommend leaving the boxes open overnight or for at least a day in your garage since the finish on the wood does smell when you open it. It is plenty sturdy for him and he loves sleeping in it. I bought a 7" or so mattress which leaves a little less clearance than the regulations say, but he never fell out of his other bed so I'm not worried. Overall, this is definitely a good value for the money.

Daughter loves it. Very solid, great looking, fun. Ladder and siderails are very safe, whole thing is very well designed.

Both my kids now have this bed. It took a while to assemble, and a couple of screws had to be replaced. We've had them for a few weeks now, and the smell of stain is still slightly there. However, once we got it together it is beautiful and sturdy. For the price it is fabulous!
