I had to file them down and the parts still didn't fit together tightly. I didn't want any sharp edges as this is a spare bedroom for the Grandkids. I ordered two headboards. One was missing parts and assembly instructions. Using the instructions from one I was able to request the missing parts. Assembly is straight forward as long instructions and all parts are included.
